Join us as we explore the new AMD RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT in this technical review, including specs, performance, and pricing.

AMD has just released the Radeon RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT graphics cards as part of its brand-new lineup for 2025. The new GPUs offer stellar gaming performance for today’s latest titles, and exciting new innovations push the capabilities of AMD Radeon graphics further. Let’s discuss the new RDNA 4 architecture, FSR 4 upscaling, and performance capabilities to give you a technical overview of the new GPUs.
RDNA 4 Architecture
AMD brings its brand-new RDNA 4 to the RX 9000 Series, built on an improved TSMC N4P process. The new RDNA 4 compute units deliver 40% higher gaming performance compared to previous-generation RDNA 3-based offerings. Additionally, new 2nd-generation AI accelerators bring improved functionality and higher performance.
The new AMD RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 offer definite improvements in terms of ray-tracing quality, bringing them much closer to the competition. Several improvements have been made in the ray-tracing department with new 3rd-generation RT accelerators. Compared to the last generation, AMD claims they deliver 2X higher RT throughput for every compute unit.
Graphics capabilities have surely been enhanced, and the new Radeon GPUs will make reflections, lighting, and more look better. Next, AMD has brought FSR 4 upscaling to RDNA 4 GPUs, offering major improvements similar to what Nvidia has done, which we’ll be discussing next.
FSR 4 Upscaling – Now Powered with AI
FSR 4 comes with big improvements this time around, with AMD finally introducing ML-powered upscaling. AMD is utilizing AI hardware present on the RDNA 4 architecture to power this new feature, making it exclusive to RX 9000 Series GPUs. The new algorithm has been trained on its data-center-grade AMD Instinct Accelerators. There are major improvements to image quality here, making FSR 4 excellent for gaming in 1440p and 4K. Using presets like Balanced or Performance was not preferred by gamers before, but with FSR 4, they can now be considered more than acceptable to use.
Using FSR 4 in games provides major performance benefits. In terms of capabilities, AMD is touting an excellent gameplay experience at 1440p and 4K with maximized ray tracing settings. For game integration, 30 games were said to be supported at launch, some notable ones being Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, The Last of Us: Part I, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, and God of War: Ragnarok. You can find the latest list on AMD’s website. With the new Radeon RX 9000 Series, AMD has stepped up the game. PC builders are quite excited to get their hands on these new graphics cards!

Specifications
Here are the specifications of the new AMD Radeon RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT. Many models will be available from AMD’s board partners, such as XFX, Asus, Gigabyte, Sapphire, and PowerColor. Of course, retail stores plan to stock more models with wide availability. Team Red intends to release more GPUs under the banner of the RX 9000 Series. However, for now, they have introduced just these two models in order to compete with NVIDIA’s new RTX 50 Series. Mainly, these target the GeForce RTX 5070 and RTX 5070 Ti.
GPU | RX 9070 | RX 9070 XT |
Compute Units | 56 | 64 |
VRAM Capacity & Type | 16GB GDDR6 | 16GB GDDR6 |
Clock Speed | 2.1 GHz (Game Clock), 2.5 GHz (Boost Clock) | 2.4 GHz (Game Clock), 3.0 GHz (Boost Clock) |
Memory Interface | 256-bit | 256-bit |
Infinity Cache | 64MB | 64MB |
PCIe Generation | PCIe Express 5.0 | PCIe Express 5.0 |
Power Connectors | 2x 8-pin connectors | 2x 8-pin connectors |
Total Board Power (TBP) | 220W | 304W |
Recommended Power Supply | 650W | 750W |
AMD’s RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 are both powered by 16GB GDDR6 memory. This offers users great VRAM capacity at an affordable price. More VRAM is important for games of today as well as those coming in the future. Both GPUs have DisplayPort 2.1a ports, supporting the best monitor technology available today.
However, these ports are technically not as good as the DisplayPort 2.1b ports offered on RTX 50 Series GPUs. This is because they support higher resolutions without needing DSC. Still, these GPUs are excellent contenders for gamers, even if they pick them for the best monitors available today. In addition to 3X DP 2.1a ports, both RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 also have an HDMI 2.1b port.
Performance

In terms of performance, AMD’s benchmarks show excellent capabilities in both GPUs at Native 4K Ultra settings. These GPUs are very much capable of offering flagship gaming experiences while staying affordable for gamers. At 4K Ultra, we see FPS in the range of ~90-110 in notable titles like God of War Ragnarok, Assasin’s Creed: Mirage, DOOM Eternal, and more. Gamers will enjoy the latest titles quite well on these GPUs.

Of course, when you employ the use of FSR 4 image upscaling along with frame generation, you can increase performance further using these GPUs. You can increase performance as per your preferences by using the Balanced or Performance preset. You can also make use of frame generation technologies to further increase FPS. Above is an example of FSR 4 being used to increase the raw, native-quality 4K performance of 53 FPS up to 182 FPS in Space Marine II.
Should You Buy The RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 GPUs?
AMD’s new GPUs are excellent contenders to the RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5070 GPUs. FSR 4 upscaling makes games look much better, making it a real competitor to DLSS 4. Even if AMD’s version of upscaling doesn’t reach the quality of Nvidia’s, it’s quite close, and for gamers, it makes 1440p and 4K gaming accessible at frame rates of their choice thanks to preset settings.
Given the pricing of these GPUs—RX 9070 at $549 and RX 9070 XT at $599—these graphics cards are an excellent buy, giving you great performance per dollar. If you value DLSS 4 Multi-Frame Generation heavily or require Nvidia GPUs for their optimized nature in various productivity applications, then the RTX 50 Series is a decent pick, too. Still, you can’t ignore the sheer value these new RX 9000 Series deliver.
With more GPUs expected to join the RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 in AMD’s RDNA 4 lineup, our bet is that the graphics card market will become increasingly exciting. What are your thoughts on AMD’s new GPUs?
