Nvidia’s Ampere architecture, found within the core of the RTX 3080 and 3080 Ti, looks promising even today. These cards delivered incredible computing performance and handled even the most demanding titles when they were released.

As of 2025, for instance, Assassin’s Creed Shadows should technically run like butter, right? Well, there is a catch. Despite the GPU’s capabilities, some gamers have reported hiccups, thanks to finicky optimization in recent games. Honestly, these cards still shine at 1440p (2560 × 1440). However, their VRAM desires more (10GB and 12GB for the two iterations of the 3080, and 12GB only for the Ti). With that said, let’s explore finding the perfect balance between visual clarity and a fluid gaming experience.

Note: We are using the Decoupled FSR 3.1 frame generation here. Thanks to AMD, Ampere’s high-end still packs a serious punch. We opted for the Balanced upscaling preset—DLSS 3.7+ delivers near-native image quality while keeping performance smooth.

Our guide is based on the Very High preset but with a few adjustments to improve performance while retaining the same image quality. Here’s why:

  • Shadow, RTGI, and Particle quality are reduced by one step because shadows and particles significantly impact FPS, but the visual difference between Very High and High is negligible in gameplay.
  • Texture streaming pool is set to High from Very High because our GPUs only have 12GB of VRAM. When using frame generation, additional VRAM is allocated, so that’s a safety-first approach in case you start running out of VRAM. It’s the early days of the game’s initial launch, and in 2025, game optimization… yeah, you know the drill.
  • Cloud quality has been reduced from Very High to High. Volumetric clouds have a significant GPU load because the game has a dynamic weather system. This will ease the compute load on the GPU and be helpful in certain weather conditions.

We hope you found our guide helpful. You can play around with these settings, turn off Framegen, or even plug in a controller. Overall, you are free to customize and have a pleasant experience. Happy gaming!
