The Steam Deck has been a game-changer in portable gaming, allowing players to experience PC-quality games on the go. One of the latest titles to join the list of Steam Deck Verified games is South of Midnight. This article takes a look at the official developer announcement, details what makes a game Steam Deck Verified, and other ways to play South of Midnight.
South of Midnight Is Officially Verified for the Steam Deck

In an official announcement from their Blueky account, Compulsion Games revealed that South of Midnight has been Verified for the Steam Deck. Essentially, this means that you can play the game on the portable Steam Deck and it should work smoothly right out of the ‘box’.
South of Midnight has set April 8, 2025, as their full worldwide release day. Additionally, if you pre-order the Premium Edition, you can download and start playing the game five days early on April 3, 2025.
What Steam Deck Verified Means for SoM
When a game is labeled as “Steam Deck Verified,” it means that the game has been thoroughly tested and optimized to run smoothly on the Steam Deck handheld console. Valve, the company behind Steam, has established a set of criteria to ensure a seamless experience for players using the Steam Deck. Consequently, all potential games must pass these tests to receive a Verified stamp of approval.
Games are Verified on Steam after meeting these four standards:
- Input: The title should have full controller support, use appropriate controller input icons, and automatically bring up the on-screen keyboard when needed.
- Display: The game should support the default resolution of Steam Deck (1280×800 or 1280×720), have good default settings, and text should be legible.
- Seamlessness: The title shouldn’t display any compatibility warnings, and if there’s a launcher it should be navigable with a controller.
- System Support: If running through Proton, the game, and all its middleware should be supported by Proton. This includes anti-cheat support.
Other Ways to Play South of Midnight
