In Oblivion Remastered, some quests demand more than just running errands. Unfriendly Competition is one of those quests that pulls you into a merchant scandal rooted in illegal activity. To complete it properly, you must gather solid proof—and that’s where the Macabre Manifest comes in.

This guide will walk you through everything you need to know to collect the Macabre Manifest efficiently and understand why it’s so important. If you are midway through the quest or preparing in advance, follow each section closely.

You won’t receive the location directly. Instead, you will piece things together after trailing Thoronir and eavesdropping on a late-night meeting. After observing his interaction with Agarmir in the Market District’s garden, you will get a clue about where Agarmir resides.

His house sits in the Talos Plaza District. You can’t walk in at any hour—wait until around 7 PM when Agarmir is likely out. The door and the basement both have average difficulty locks, so bring supplies or skill to bypass them.

Head straight to the basement. Look for a table surrounded by candles. The Macabre Manifest sits there. Don’t skim it—take it. Only then will it count as evidence in your quest log.

The Macabre Manifest is not a lore item or a journal entry—it serves a critical purpose in pushing the quest forward. Without this document, you can’t prove Agarmir’s involvement in grave robbing, which is the root of the low prices at Thoronir’s shop.

You need it to confront Thoronir and reveal that his inventory is being supplied with stolen goods. The book outlines Agarmir’s practices and shows that he’s been disturbing graves to fuel Thoronir’s business. Once you show it to Thoronir, the storyline opens up, allowing you to confront Agarmir directly.

If you skip the book or forget to take it, the rest of the quest stalls. You won’t be able to proceed to the mausoleum or trigger the final confrontation. So the Manifest isn’t just helpful—it’s required.
