First, arrive at the Imperial City to obtain details about the Thieves Guild. Here, you can gather further information through the following methods:

  • Committing a crime: Once you commit a crime in the Imperial City and avoid bribing the guards, you will be sent to jail. Afterward, spend eight hours in jail to receive a mysterious note mentioning a secret meeting in the Garden of Dareloth at midnight.
  • Investigating Gray Fox’s posters: After arriving in the Imperial City, you will spot several wanted posters of Gray Fox. Interacting with them leads you to a beggar named Puny Ancus, an NPC found in the Waterfront District. You must bribe him if you have not already paid a bribe during the quest. Then, he will tell you about the Garden of Dareloth meeting at midnight.

Once you arrive at the designated location at midnight, you will find a person waiting there. Now, wait for Armand Christophe to arrive. When he does, speak with him to open a dialogue prompt. Then, select the “Join the Thieves Guild” option to trigger a cutscene. Afterward, the May the Best Thief Win quest will begin.

In this quest, your objective is to steal a diary from Amantius Allectus’ house before the other NPCs do. Once it starts, talk to a beggar to find clues about the house’s location. He will tell you that the house is on the far east side of the Temple District.

Head to the house and lockpick the closed door. However, most of the time, another NPC will collect the diary first. If that happens, follow them and pickpocket the diary as they return to the quest giver. Now, simply return the diary to the quest giver to complete the quest.

That was everything about joining the Thieves Guild in Oblivion Remastered.
