Found in the Abbest Cave, the Chromatic Abbest is a deceptively hard-hitting optional boss in Clair Obscur Expedition 33.

Clair Obscur Expedition 33 is a game that perfectly blends real-time elements into turn-based combat. There’s a synergy here that makes the combat addictive, and the game gives you plenty of opportunities to master both elements in its various boss fights.
While some boss fights allow you to indulge carefree and perfect your mechanical skill, bosses like the Chromatic Abbest are a whole different ball game. The Chromatic Abbest is one of the tougher bosses in Clair Obscur Expedition 33 and may have you pulling your hair. Residing in the Abbest Cave, the boss is difficult and optional, leading many players to skip it entirely after a few tries.
However, we wouldn’t recommend that as this boss rewards you with a Resplendent Chroma Catalyst and a Colour of Lumina, in addition to a large chunk of XP.
The boss’ ridiculously hard-hitting moves and tricky timings can make the fight a hassle, but we’re here to walk you through it. In this guide, we shall discuss tips and tricks to beat the Chromatic Abbest and help you overcome this seemingly insurmountable hurdle.

In terms of visual design, the Chromatic Abbest is a large lump of cotton with metal horns. The boss uses the horns to attack, so keeping an eye on the horns will help you read and parry the attacks. The ONLY attack you need to watch for is a jumping-ground smash.
The boss will leap into the air, before lowering its horns to face you and attack. The Chromatic Abbest uses this attack three times in succession, so you will have to nail the parry all three times. This is the only attack the boss uses, so you have plenty of chances to read it and figure out the timing.
If you don’t feel confident with the parries, make sure to dodge at the very least. Dodge and use the opportunity to study the timing. The boss deals a large chunk of damage and will one-hit-kill you if your stats are not up to par. Therefore, it is essential to parry or dodge at any cost. Once you figure out the timing, parry and then use Dark Damage to exploit the boss’ weakness and finish him off with a few blows.
