Gargant is a unique boss because it can effortlessly alternate between ice and fire stances in the middle of the fight. And it only takes damage from the opposite element from its current stance. For instance, if it is currently in ice stance, you’ll need to unleash fire attacks on it to cause damage. In fire stance, your ice attacks will be devastating to the opponent. However, every time you attack with the opposite element, Gargant will change its stance once again. So, you’ll need to adapt your attacks in the next turn.

You can tell which stance he is in by noticing his color. In ice stance, the boss will glow blue, while in fire stance, he’ll be red. But, beware, if you use the wrong element to attack him depending on his stance, it will actually heal some of his HP. For example, if he’s in ice stance and you strike with an ice attack, you’ll do no damage, and the boss will recover a part of his health.

Besides that, you’ll need to learn his attack patterns too. Gargant has four types of attacks.

  • Combo: In this attack, the enemy will have a long windup before unleashing multiple strikes in close succession.

  • Spin Slam: Gargant will spin three times and then slam onto the ground. This is an area-of-effect attack that can hit your entire party.

  • Ice beam: A ray of ice that Gargant fires, which can freeze your squad members if they’re hit.

  • Blast: In his fire stance, the enemy fires a projectile that explodes on impact. Parry at just the right time to protect yourself.
