This is an all-around guide for the Esquie’s Nest quest in Clair Obscur Expedition 33, which includes the François boss battle.
Esquie’s Nest is a relatively short questline during your playthrough in Clair Obscur Expedition 33. Esquie is a deity who has been around since the dawn of time and is kind of a fun character. Even though this questline is short, it’s an eventful one and is important for the journey ahead.
This guide will focus on the aforementioned Esquie’s Nest questline and the boss battle with François. This quest can be started when you leave Gestral Village and go further east. Then you’ll come across Esquie’s Nest, visible as a giant face in the sky. You can rest and upgrade your characters at the flag if necessary, or move along.
Esquie’s Nest in Clair Obscur Expedition 33
After resting or upgrading your characters, you have to follow the path to the right of the checkpoint. You’ll find a Color of Lumina inside; collect it and head towards the large Gestral. You’ll see a cutscene with Gustave and Maelle, who are somewhat rude to Gestral. Then you’ll want to head up the ramp to the left of the Gestral and go through the narrow corridor. As you come through the corridor, look to your left for a place to slide down. This area contains a Petank.
You can chase it into the purple-hued glowing area to corner it. If you defeat it in time, you’ll get valuable upgrade items. You can stall for time by using Overcharge to break its stance. This will give you another turn to fight. Then head back to the area you descended from to use the handholds to climb back up. Then jump off the center bridge to the other side. Alternatively, you can go south to find another mime. Defeat it again to earn a new hairstyle and costume for Sciel in Clair Obscur Expedition 33.
Go east, near some glowing mushrooms. You’ll find a mushroom to harvest, which will be helpful later. Climb back to the centre bridge and follow it. After you ascend the first set of stairs, go left to collect some Chroma. Then keep heading up the stairs; both sides lead to Esquie. After the cutscene with Esquie, head east to find François. After the first grapple point, you’ll find a Color of Lumina if you head west. Then head in the other direction to find another flag.
François Boss Battle in Clair Obscur Expedition 33
Rest and upgrade your characters for battle, and then proceed towards François. The boss will use an ice attack, which is absolutely lethal if it hits one of the expeditioners. The beam will have two main animations where it’s gathering power, basically a charge animation. You can use your parry as the second one charges to execute a powerful counterattack and avoid death.
This is the only attack François will execute, and you can take him down pretty quickly. Your rewards will be Augmented First Strike Pictos. Once you defeat François, look around for a purple glowing path that has a rope. Climb the rope, then follow the path to its top. You’ll have to go through a short tunnel and emerge at sprint-jumping distance of an item, another Color of Lumina.
Then you must jump off the pillar and ascend the nearby stairs to find Esquie and get a cutscene to wrap up the quest. That’s not all, next you should climb the pillar that Esquie tipped over and use it as a grapple point. You must head right to an abandoned camp where you’ll find another journal. This journal is from Expedition 66. Read it and keep heading south, and you’ll find new Pictos eventually. Then jump back down to the entrance, and you can exit Esquie’s Nest.
Once you’re back on the Continent, you’ll be able to utilize Esquie. On Esquie, you can go through any blue glowing rocks on your way. Now you can head to camp to use your items and write in your journal. The next location of your journey across Clair Obscur Expedition 33 is the Stone Wall Cliffs.
