The Google I/O event takes place every May, and this year will be no different. This is the event where Google announces new Android versions and unveils all the changes that come with them. However, it seems the search giant is preparing more changes ahead of the event, like the new Google logo, for instance. The new logo design was first spotted in the Google Search app icon on iOS. It has been almost 10 years since Google changed its logo.

In this article, we will analyze the newly refreshed ‘G’ logo and explain what it could mean for Google.

The ‘G’ logo is an iconic part of Google’s identity, so it makes sense if the company wants to keep the same design language. The last Google logo redesign was in 2015, which was done to reflect the company’s transition into a diverse ecosystem of services under its parent company, Alphabet. Hence, the use of multiple colors.

However, Google has evolved tremendously in the last 10 years, which is probably why the search giant is redesigning the ‘G’ logo once again to align with its current identity. It is probably a sneak peek of the new design changes expected in the upcoming Android 16 version. For those unaware, Google has announced a new design identity called Material 3 Expressive for Android 16 and its other services. It is created to provide a more fluid motion and gradient color experience.

If you look carefully, the design language of the new ‘G’ Google logo certainly has both fluid and gradient-like design cues. All four colors of the ‘G’ logo slowly blend in with one another in a very fluid and gradient manner, giving it a fresh new look. We will learn more at the upcoming I/O 2025 event, which is set for May 20–21, 2025.
