Nubs Arena is a brand-new arena brawler released on May 15, 2025. The game’s premise is that you play as characters called Nubs and battle in an arena to see who can prevail in the chaos. Fortunately, players are already loving the cute art style and goofy combat. However, the one thing the game is not great at is explaining anything. In other words, there is no tutorial or explanation. You are thrown straight into matches with zero knowledge.

To help you understand, here’s a guide on how the different game modes function in Nubs Arena.

When you first log in to Nubs Arena, you get two options to start the match. The first one is Quick Match, and the second is Local Play. Local Play only works if you have four players in your lobby. If you are either playing alone or have fewer than four players, then only playing Quick Match is your option as of now.

Quick Match is a four-player brawl in which each Nub has to play through five separate rounds. These rounds can have one of the two existing game modes based on how much the top player is scoring. The first game mode is a free-for-all brawl called Last Nub Standing. All players spawn in different corners of the map, and their objective is to loot chests, collect items, and beat other Nubs.

Once you beat a Nub, they don’t die; they turn into a floating star. As a floating star, they can only fly, and their objective is not to let you catch them. If you fail to catch them as a star for a while, they turn back into a Nub with half of their HP. However, if you do catch the star, the player won’t respawn again in that round, and you get a point. Therefore, in a free-for-all, you can have a maximum of three points or no points at all.

The second available game mode right now is the team battles. However, you can only play this mode if all four players are available in the match. This mode won’t appear if even a single player leaves the match or gets disconnected. As the name suggests, this is a 2v2 mode, in which you play with another Nub. Your goal is to defeat the two opposing Nubs and win the match.

Which Is the Best Game Mode in Nubs Arena Right Now?

The best game mode in Nubs Arena is the free-for-all mode. This is because you won’t have to rely on a random player to win the match. With the number of disconnections right now, the 2v2 mode is becoming a rather negative experience when faced in matchups. However, without any lags or network problems, the 2v2 mode is the more fun one if you can communicate with your teammate in some way.
