Clair Obscur Expedition 33 features interactive turn-based combat and an engaging story to keep players invested until the credits start to roll. The game also has some of the toughest bosses in gaming history.

Various bosses in the game can give you a difficult time if you aren’t prepared or don’t apply the correct strategy. Defeating most of them requires a calculated approach, as they can have a steep learning curve. Most of the bosses in Clair Obscur have unique mechanics and aren’t part of the main storyline.

5. Dualliste

The Dualliste is encountered in the Forgotten Battlefield. The boss fights with its fire and darkness twin swords. Moreover, its long combos and high damage can be difficult to deal with if you aren’t careful with your parries and dodges. Dualliste also makes use of Gradient Attacks in its combos and applies the Inverted status effect, which makes heals do damage to your party instead.

During the second phase, Dualliste’s combos become longer with the addition of the dark sword. Lastly, it also gains a new attack in this phase, Stormblood, in which it summons its clones to attack The Expedition.

4. The Paintress

The Expedition faces The Paintress at the end of Act 2. The game’s entire campaign leads to this confrontation to defeat her, which was The Expedition’s mission. The Paintress’s void meteors and chroma wave attacks in the first phase can be tricky to deal with. She also regularly targets The Expedition with her Chroma Shatters move, which does huge AOE damage.

Once her second phase begins, she uses corrupted chroma on the party members to inflict negative status effects. She will also use her most damaging attack by ripping reality apart and summoning orbs.

3. Clea

You fight Clea at the end of the Flying Manor level. What makes this boss fight exceptionally difficult is that Clea will heal for a large amount every time her combos aren’t counterattacked with Chroma. She will also summon Nevrons to attack the party constantly. Defeating her requires careful use of parries and jump counters to lower her health.

2. Painted Love

This is the final boss at the end of the Endless Tower. In the Painted Love boss fight, you will be facing both The Curator and The Paintress together while they share a single health pool. Both of them have their movesets from the previous fights in the story.

The Curator will attack using his signature sword combos and void crosses alongside The Paintress, who will lock The Expedition down with her flying combos. Make sure to use attacks that target both of them to deal twice as much damage and bring their health bar down quickly.

1. Simon

Regarded as one of the most difficult bosses in the game, Simon is encountered in the Abyss, in the far reaches of Renoir’s Drafts. Simon has three phases and heavily damages the party with his relentless combo attacks, which only increase in number with each phase. Moreover, he will instantly remove party members from the canvas on his turn if they are in a downed state. At the end of his second phase, he will remove active party members from the canvas, which means your reserve party will have to defeat him instead.
