In this guide, we shall go over the best alternative skills for the OP Stendhal skill in Clair Obscur Expedition 33.

Clair Obscur Expedition 33 offers countless possibilities in its builds, allowing players to mold their individual playstyles as they see fit. While this was always the intention, it wasn’t so in practice. Most players were relying on Maelle’s Stendhal skill to one-shot bosses and cruise through the game.
Noting how this OP build was hindering creativity and challenge, the devs nerfed the skill, rendering most one-shot builds useless. Now that Stendhal is not the Nevron killer it used to be, most players are seeking out alternative skills they could use in its place. If you happen to fit this description, we’ve got you covered. In this guide, we shall go over the best alternative skills for Stendhal in Clair Obscur Expedition 33.

What Are the Best Alternatives to Stendhal in Clair Obscur Expedition 33?
1) Gommage
The first that even remotely comes close to Stendhal is the Gommage skill. This is a Gradient Attack that deals extreme Void damage and kills all weak enemies. Since this is a Gradient Skill, it also does not cost you a turn. The only downside to it is that it requires 3 Gradient Charges, which could take you a while. We recommend using high AP skills to build up Gradient Charges fast and finish enemies off with Gommage.

2) Phantom Strike
The next best skill we recommend picking up is Phantom Strike. This skill costs you 7 AP and deals high Void damage for 4 hits. Phantom Strike then switches you over to a defensive stance. We recommend using this skill in Virtuoso stance for that extra 200% damage buff. While this may not be Stendhal, it is the next best thing. Furthermore, for a mere cost of 4 skill points, it is total bang for your buck for the damage it deals.
3) Sword Ballet
The final skill we recommend picking up is the Sword Ballet skill. This skill deals extreme single-target damage for a total of 5 hits. To make it even stronger, it deals double that during critical hits. Using this during a Virtuoso stance is highly advised. It also switches you over to a defensive stance, preparing you for the enemy’s retaliation. The skill costs you 9 AP, so we suggest equipping the appropriate AP-granting Luminas to use this as often as possible.
