How To Enable DLSS Frame Gen in Doom The Dark Ages

Doom The Dark Ages is a demanding game that requires DLSS features like upscaling and frame gen to reach the desired high frame rate.

Doom The Dark Ages is a game that is best played at 120 Hz or above. However, reaching such high frame rates by default is not something many GPUs can do, especially when playing at QHD or 4K resolution. This is where technologies like DLSS Frame Generation come into play. It can double or even triple the frame rates, depending on which generation of Nvidia RTX graphics card you have on your computer.

In this article, we will discuss how DLSS Frame Generation technology works and how to enable it in Doom The Dark Ages.

What Is DLSS Frame Gen?

DLSS Frame Generation is a proprietary Nvidia technology. It inserts one generated frame between every two real frames to double the FPS in supported games. This technology uses previously rendered frames to generate a new frame between two real frames, which minimizes artifacts. Its successor, Multi-Frame Generation, can even triple the frame rates with its 4x mode, which was developed specifically for Nvidia’s RTX 50 series GPUs.

If you don’t have an RTX 50 series card, you can still enable Frame Generation, but only in the 2x mode. You must also turn on Nvidia Reflex technology to ensure there’s no increase in latency when using Frame Gen.

Enabling DLSS Frame Gen in Doom The Dark Ages is quite simple. Just follow the steps below to enable this technology:

  • Pause Doom The Dark Ages and go to its settings.
  • Navigate to the Video tab using the mouse or through the RB/R1 button on the controller.
  • Scroll down and look for DLSS Frame Generation.
  • Select DLSS Frame Generation and select a mode between 2x, 3x, or 4x, depending on your Nvidia graphics card.
  • Scroll down again and enable Nvidia Reflex Mode.

You have successfully activated DLSS Frame Gen and should see a much higher FPS now. However, you won’t be able to enable it in settings if you don’t have a supported Nvidia RTX GPU. If you have a supported RTX graphics card, then you must update your graphics driver if it’s still greyed out.
