Elden Ring Nightreign is not an easy game, especially in the opening few hours. While it does use the base of the original Elden Ring for combat mechanics and general structure, it offers a vastly different experience, more akin to a rogue-like than a souls-like. In addition to that, the game can often be extremely difficult, especially when it comes to the bosses and the Nightlords.

While there’s no static level progression in Nightreign, a la traditional souls-likes, there’s still a system that you can use to upgrade your chosen Nightfarer. This system is called the Relic Rites, which essentially serves as the game’s “upgrade mechanics,” though with some major caveats. Here’s everything you need to know about the Relic Rites, and the Relics themselves, in Elden Ring Nightreign.

What Is Relic Rites in Elden Ring Nightreign?

Relic Rites is Elden Ring Nightreign’s equivalent of an upgrade system. Basically, for every Expedition you complete, you’re rewarded with Relics, which come with randomized perks and buffs. You can equip a total of 3 Relics per Nightfarer to increase their stats or give them a passive buff. Some Relics offer a flat increase to stats such as Vigor, Endurance, Dexterity, Strength, etc. Others offer passive buffs like increased poison resistance, faster recharge for Ultimate Arts, starting weapons being imbued with fire affinity, etc. Once you unlock Relics, you can equip them on a Nightfarer at the Roundtable Hold via the Relic Rites.

It should be noted that you can only equip Relics at the Roundtable Hold via the dedicated Relic Rites station. Relics in Nightreign are color-coded and equipped on character goblets. You can purchase different goblets for the Nightfarers at the Small Jar Bazaar. New goblets offer a variation in colored slots, which allow you to create different combinations of Relics based on the Expedition you plan to undertake. For instance, you can keep a Magic Resistance Relics set created for bosses like Darkdrift Knight and Sentient Pest. Whereas, you can keep a Madness Resistance Relics set ready for bosses like Libra.

You can freely switch between different goblets at the Relic Rites station. Also, the game highly incentivizes switching up your Relics frequently. You will give yourself a better chance at success on the Expeditions.

How To Unlock Relic Rites

Relic Rites is unlocked as soon as you complete the prologue and get access to the Roundtable Hold. Once your reach the Roundtable Hold, you will be greeted by the hooded maiden, who will tell you about the Nightlords as well as the Relic Rites. After the cutscene, you’re free to use the Relic Rites station to equip the starter Relics. Once you complete a few Expeditions successfully, you will unlock additional goblets, which will give you the option to store various Relic loadouts. You can use the Relic Rites station to equip Relics for all Nightfarers, without having to switch to every one of them.

How To Farm Relics

Relics, much like the majority of Nightreign, are randomized. That said, there are a few guaranteed Relics that you can obtain from defeating Nightlords and completing Remembrance quests.

There are three key methods to get Relics in Elden Ring Nightreign: Expeditions, Relic Rites, and Small Jar Bazaar. You get Relics upon finishing an Expedition, regardless of whether you defeated the Nightlord or not. However, defeating a Nightlord does reward you with higher-tier Relics more often. Completing Nightfarer Remembrance quests also offers you Relics, which are quite powerful. However, these Relics are limited in number and usually tied to the Nightfarer you completed the Remembrance quest for.

Lastly, you can purchase some lower-tier Relics from the Small Jar Bazaar. There’s also a random Relic generator that you can use at the Small Jar Bazaar. Essentially, you can pay 600 Murk to the Jar to generate a random Relic, which can yield an Epic-tier Relic as well. If you’re planning to farm Relics, going through Expeditions is the best option. Otherwise, you can simply generate Random Relics at the Jar Bazaar, as long as you have enough Murk.
