The launch of the RTX 50 series GPUs has been problematic for Nvidia due to a myriad of issues that affect these cards. Nvidia has already delivered several driver updates to fix these issues, but some users remain affected. However, it seems the new RTX 5050 series of GPUs are also affected by the black screen issues, and Nvidia has released a new firmware update to mitigate these issues.

In this article, we will explain everything you need to know about the new RTX 5060 series firmware update and where to get it.

According to Nvidia, this black screen issue happens only with some motherboards’ SMBIOS. If you bought an RTX 5060 series card and were unlucky enough to have a motherboard BIOS incompatible with the GPU, then you will see black screens. Also, if you switch to legacy mode/CSM BIOS, you will experience black screens even if your motherboard’s BIOS is fine.

Nvidia has released a new firmware to fix this issue but warns that not every user needs it. Only those experiencing a black screen issue should update their GPUs’ firmware, but not every RTX 5060 series owner. Therefore, do not install this firmware update if you don’t experience any black screen issues. However, if you are actually affected by this black screen issue, you must update your GPU’s firmware. To do this, you must download the RTX firmware updater tool from the Nvidia website and follow the instructions there.

Here’s the list of RTX GPUs affected by this issue:

Are Many Users Affected by the Black Screen Issue?

As of this writing, we haven’t seen any reports from users saying they are affected by a black screen issue. However, it is possible that there haven’t been many sales of the RTX 5060 cards yet, which would explain why there aren’t any reports of this black screen issue. Or, it could be that Nvidia caught this issue before there were any user reports.

Nonetheless, issues like this should have been fixed before the card shipped. It is unfortunate that some buyers may have to experience this after buying a brand-new card. But then again, the entire RTX 50 series launch has been problematic, and some issues still plague the cards.
