Everything you need to know about the Shifting Earth events in Elden Ring Nightreign, including details on how they work, rewards, and more.

The Shifting Earth events are easily one of the most confusing aspects of Elden Ring Nightreign’s moment-to-moment gameplay loop. While the game tries its best to explain how the Shifting Earth systems work, it’s still a bit tricky to decipher until you’ve completed a few runs and figured out the secrets these events hold. However, if you do figure out the Shifting Earth events, you will be rewarded with not only a ton of Runes, but also powerful gear. As such, completing these areas can often turn the tide of combat in your favor, especially against the Nightlords. Thankfully, understanding and even deciphering the Shifting Earth mechanics isn’t that tricky, especially if you have experience playing the original Elden Ring.
Here’s everything you need to know about the Shifting Earth events in Elden Ring Nightreign and how they work.
What Is Shifting Earth in Elden Ring Nightreign?

Shifting Earth is essentially Nightreign’s version of Legacy Dungeons. Think of these like the static dungeons that feature a Remembrance boss in the original Elden Ring. Shifting Earth events start appearing in Limveld after you have defeated two Nightlords. The events can appear at random during an Expedition and are usually tied to the host’s world. Additionally, while the loot in these dungeons is always randomized, the enemy placements as well as the bosses are static. This means that once you figure out the layout of these dungeons, you can steamroll through them in your subsequent attempts, granted you’re equipped with level-appropriate gear.
During a Shifting Earth event, a special dungeon will appear on the map of Limveld. This dungeon can either be Mountaintops, Rotted Woods, Crater, or Noklateo. The appearance of these areas is completely randomized. Additionally, if you want to disable the Shifting Earth event, you can do so by simply resting in the Waiting Room.
How To Complete Shifting Earth Events?

Shifting Earth events are a great way to farm Runes and get powerful (Legendary-tier) weapons in Nightreign. However, these are also incredibly challenging dungeons, with bosses that are capable of “one-shotting” you if you’re under-leveled. As such, we recommend tackling the Shifting Earth events on Day 2, with at least Level 10 characters. As for the secrets, you can unlock the Crater’s secrets by descending to the lowest levels in the area and defeating the Magma Wyrm. For Noklateo, you can unlock the secret by making your way to the center of the dungeon and defeating the boss. For Rotted Woods, you can complete the secret by finding the Scarlet Flower Bud.
Lastly, for the Mountaintops, you can unlock the secret by scaling the peak of the area and interacting with the frozen crystal. Completing the Shifting Earth events always grants you a boon, increasing your defenses, resistances, and attack power. Furthermore, some of these areas also allow you to upgrade your weapon to Legendary tier.
