To lockpick any locked doors or chests, you first require a lockpick. If you’re in the starting prison area of the game, simply exploring will give you access to 10 or so lockpicks. Once you have stacked up enough, approach any of the locks and interact with them to begin lockpicking.
As you lockpick, you see two sticks inserted into the lock. The stick at the bottom slots in for the key, while the stick at the top is the lockpick. You move the lockpick around to find the “sweet spot” to open the lock without resistance.
Finding the sweet spot requires a bit of trial and error. Move the lockpick around clockwise, and slowly turn the stick at the bottom. If the stick faces immense resistance, it means you’re far away from the sweet spot. If there’s little resistance, you’re close to it. Think of it like a game of hot and cold. Move the lockpick around to find the hot spot and open the lock.
