Everything you need to know about Elden Ring Nightreign’s traversal system, and whether the game has fall damage or not.

Elden Ring Nightreign is a very different game compared to its predecessors. In fact, it cannot even be classified as a traditional souls-like, as it has more in common with rogue-like games. And much like rogue-likes, one of the biggest aspects of Nightreign’s gameplay is its traversal. In the original Elden Ring, traversal was already quite fast-paced compared to the past Souls games from FromSoftware. However, in Nightreign, traversal has received a significant bump in speed. While you don’t have access to your trusty steed, Torrent, you’re much faster on foot this time around. This is thanks to a new sprint toggle, which allows you to cover large distances in mere seconds.
Another major change in terms of traversal in Nightreign is the lack of fall damage. Unlike in past FromSoftware games, in Nightreign, you won’t die due to gravity. In fact, you can jump from almost any height and survive the fall without a scratch on your HP bar. However, this comes with a major caveat. Here’s everything you need to know about Elden Ring Nightreing’s traversal and fall damage.
Why Is There No Fall Damage in Elden Ring Nightreign?

The moment-to-moment gameplay of Elden Ring Nightreign is incredibly fast-paced. As soon as you land on Limveld, you’re incentivized to try to scrounge for resources as quickly and efficiently as possible. And much like Limgrave or even the Shadow Realm, Limveld has a ton of verticality. Often, you will find yourself making your way through a straight line to either get to the next boss fight or a church. In a game with such a frantic pacing, having fall damage can often be incredibly frustrating. On top of that, there’s also the fact that the map periodically tends to shrink every day, which can limit the available area you can use to traverse past vertical ledges.
That said, while there’s no fall damage in Nightreign, you can still die if you fall off the edge of the map. There’s no invisible wall securing the edges of Limveld, and if you do end up falling, you will lose a level and your Runes. Also, if you’re in single-player mode, falling off the edge will mean having to forfeit a run.
Does Elden Ring Nightreign Have Equipment Load (Encumbrance)?
No, there’s no equipment load (encumbrance) in Elden Ring Nightreign. It’s essentially the same as Bloodborne, where you can carry as many weapons as you want, without slowing down your character. All 8 Nightfarers have the same traversal speed, regardless of how many weapons you have equipped. However, the dodge can be different across different classes. For instance, Duchess has a quick-step followed by a long dodge, whereas characters like Ironeye and Raider have a traditional dodge roll. There are also characters like Wylder, Executor, and Guardian that have a hybrid dodge with a quick step and a long dodge roll.
