Learn the basic controls for Deltarune and how to remap them. Play the game in fullscreen with a simple change to the settings.

Deltarune is a pixel art adventure game known for its impactful storytelling, bullet hell turn-based combat, and endearing characters. Developed by Toby Fox as a parallel story to the widely acclaimed indie RPG, Undertale, the game spans seven chapters, with the first two available for free as a demo.
Despite its charming visuals and accessible gameplay, Deltarune offers limited upfront guidance, making it initially difficult for new players to figure out how to access or customize basic controls.
The minimalist UI and lack of tutorial prompts mean players often have to experiment to understand how to control the character and access menus. More challenging still is figuring out how to remap keys and activate fullscreen, as the game begins in windowed mode by default.
Deltarune: Keyboard and Gamepad Controls

While you are in-game, press the “C” key on the keyboard or the “Y” button on the gamepad to open the menu. Initially, you can only access your inventory, stats, and cellphone from the menu. Configuring and changing controls will become accessible once you progress through the story and reach the Dark World.
Once there, open the menu and navigate to the “CONFIG” tab and choose “Controls.” Select any function with the “Z” key or “A” button, and press the button you would like to change it to. Here are all the default controls that will be active when you first start playing the game:
Function | Keyboard | Gamepad |
---|---|---|
Down | Down Arrow | Left Stick/D-pad Down |
Right | Right Arrow | Left Stick/D-pad Right |
Up | Up Arrow | Left Stick/D-pad Up |
Left | Left Arrow | Left Stick/D-pad Left |
Confirm | Z | A |
Cancel | X | B |
Menu | C or Ctrl | Y |
Quit | Esc |
How To Play Deltarune in Fullscreen
To play Deltarune in fullscreen, press Alt+Enter or the F4 key. Alternatively, press the “C” key and navigate to the rightmost “CONFIG” tab while you are in the Dark World. There, select Fullscreen and press “Z” to turn Fullscreen on. The game will always run at a 640×480 resolution, which will cause pillarboxing (black bars appear at the sides of the screen).
The game has no widescreen resolution by default, and runs at a 4:3 aspect ratio, making the game screen look squarish. This is an intentional feature of the game, providing the nostalgic aesthetic of classic console games, which ran on 4:3 CRT TVs.
