Everybody has been craving a new Witcher game. To the surprise of fans, CD Projekt Red showed off an exciting tech demo of Witcher 4 recently. Gamers went ballistic, praising the graphics quality and smoothness achieved, which was believed to be done on current-generation hardware.

In fact, media outlets covered how the Witcher 4 tech demo was running at 60 FPS on a base Sony PlayStation 5 gaming console. However, that wasn’t the full story. New information suggests that the Witcher 4 tech demo, which CDPR showed off recently, does not accurately reflect what the game is actually going to look like. Here is what we know!

The Witcher 4 Tech Demo Was Just a Peek Into CDPR’s Vision, Not Actual Gameplay

Unreal Engine 5.6, which developers use to make games, features seriously impressive graphics quality with support for the latest features like ray tracing. The Witcher 4 tech demo was showcased on this engine.

According to CDPR, the video titled “The Witcher 4 — Unreal Engine 5 Tech Demo,” which is uploaded on YouTube here, showcases the vision they are planning for the next-generation game. In the description itself, it is clearly stated that “this isn’t gameplay of The Witcher 4.”

The difference we mentioned earlier is because this tech demo is made to showcase the exciting new features that Unreal Engine 5.6 brings to the table. It does not intend to showcase or reveal any major aspects of the Witcher 4 game itself. Many were doubting how such amazing graphics were possible on a PS5, and now we have the clarification.

Still, it was impressive to see such a superb-looking tech demo rendered by the PlayStation 5 console, which came out almost five years ago. The Witcher 4 will definitely look great once it releases, especially on the PS5 Pro and PC platforms. Moreover, when it inevitably comes out for next-gen consoles like the rumored PS6, it will look even better!

The tech demo was very impressive nonetheless, showcasing a beautiful town full of NPCs roaming around in a very realistic environment. Vegetation and textures looked quite beautiful, with animations on a whole other level.
