How To Get Tabula Rasa in The Alters

Tabula Rasa is the not-so-intelligent Jan clone in The Alters. Let us discuss how to get him in the game and the alternatives.

In the sci-fi game The Alters, you play as the brilliant Jan, accompanied by a bunch of ‘Alters’—your clones with completely different personalities. Surviving on a radiation-plagued, resource-heavy, and otherwise uninhabitable planet does not sound fun.

Such an arduous journey for survival cannot be completely free of taking morally ambiguous decisions (the game is about human cloning, duh!). In this article, we shall discuss how to get the clone, Tabula Rasa, in The Alters.

At the start of Act 2 of the game, Jan loses his first companion in a tragic way. The Scientist Jan discovers that the Alters are succumbing to a rare neurological condition, which occurred because their brains were lab-made and not natural.

To survive, there are two ways, and neither of them is particularly savory.

Solution 1: Tabula Rasa

A blank Jan Dolsk is grown in the womb, who is nicknamed the Tabula Rasa. Tissues from his healthy brain are to be harvested and implanted into the other Alters.

Solution 2: Neural Implants

Plugging neural implants into the Alters will allow Ally Corp to control their brain chemistry. They would eventually be saved but left at the authorities’ mercy. The neural implants will enable the Ally Corps to track and monitor the Alters, i.e., they are no longer inconspicuous.

The consequences: If you choose the blank Jan, i.e., growing Tabula Rasa, the Scientist will euthanize him after harvesting the necessary brain tissue. This heartbreaking decision would cause some of the Alters to rebel and start a base of their own. However, they will maintain being anonymous.

If you choose Implants, a different group will rebel. The Alters would be in danger, and the people on Earth will be furious.

How To Get Tabula Rasa

To get a (barely) functioning Tabula Rasa, you must create him and also administer the implants. This will result in the Scientist forgetting to administer his sedative during the riot of the rebellion. As a result, Tabula Rasa will awaken.

Although Tabula Rasa cannot be assigned any tasks, he will consume food like everyone else. However, he is a joy for Jan to have around. Eventually, you’ll be notified that he’s doing something in the Airlock; go check it out to unlock this Life Lesson.
