FBC: Firebreak is Remedy’s take on co-op shooters. The game is rapidly gaining popularity, but on the other hand, people are experiencing numerous issues with it. First, the game relies on upscaling, despite stating the minimum requirements as a GTX 1070 or RX 5600 XT. VRAM isn’t a concern here, but the performance optimization leaves more room for improvement.

That said, dial in these settings; these do not rely on RT, instead focusing purely on performance. Enabling RT, even on newer GPUs and quite capable ones such as the 9070 XT in FBC: Firebreak, causes a massive performance loss.

Note: It’s optional to enable ray tracing in this game; it’s entirely up to you. FPS shooters aren’t exactly enjoyable at 60 FPS or with frame generation (FG), which is why these settings are aggressively dialed.

A few keynotes to consider:

  • VRAM isn’t a concern here, which is why you can fully max out the texture settings over here.

  • As mentioned, FPS games and RT are a hit or miss. It’s there as an option for you. Remember to turn on FG in case you enable RT, as frame rates are severely limited when RT is on.

  • Remedy’s Northlight engine surprisingly delivers great visuals, but the performance leaves more to be desired.

Verdict

This concludes the recommendation for the RX 9070 XT and FBC: Firebreak. Use these settings as a starting point in Firebreak and see how the visuals and the performance fare. Also, you can disable upscaling completely and play the game at its native resolution. Provided that you set everything to the lowest value, you can achieve the best of both worlds, such as a cleaner image, while maintaining the same sustained motion fidelity.
