Planetary Samples are a special in-game currency in The Alters. Discover how to collect planetary samples in the game.
As you live on an uninhabitable planet surrounded by alternate versions of yourself in The Alters, there is a lot of research and crafting to carry out. Resources on this planet are plentiful, and mining posts deliver them to your base.
However, you need a special currency, Planetary Samples, to access certain research projects. After creating the Scientist Alter, you’ll trigger a questline to collect Planetary Samples.
In this guide, we’ll discuss how you can get Planetary Samples.
Learning About Planetary Samples
First, you need Scientist Jan. Without him, you will not have access to the Research Module.
After that, you will have the option to tell him about the strange anomalies appearing on the planet’s surface. He will be curious, and you’ll begin observing them. At one point, you’ll discover a new anomaly called an “Interal,” in the shape of an incandescent green glow. These are the key to Planetary Samples.
Obtaining Planetary Samples
The scientist will invent a device and name it the Luminator. You will get your hands on it after researching and crafting it. The Luminator destroys planetary anomalies. We suggest obtaining the Luminator as soon as possible, as this device becomes an essential tool later in the game.
Armed with the Luminator, return to the Interal. Scan it with the left trigger and destroy it with the right. After that, a ghostly flora appears through the Luminator’s light. Follow it, and it will lead you to a gigantic, organic-looking glowing ball. Use the Luminator to get rid of it, and then receive the Planetary Sample.
The Luminator is powered by your suit energy, so carry a few batteries before venturing out. New areas always have some Planetary Sample deposits, and more will appear as the sun draws closer.
