Discover RetroStudio, a unique Roblox experience that combines nostalgia with creativity, allowing players to recreate classic games.
RetroStudio is not just another experience on Roblox. It is a simulation game engine that recreates the feel of old Roblox, with classic games that look and feel retro. It was created by robloxandtyler from Retro Dev in 2020, and was made public on Christmas Eve of the same year. You will find classic Roblox games such as Natural Disaster Survival, Pick A Side, and Be Crushed by a Speeding Wall. The experience has seen over 120 million visits since then.
Retroblox preceded it. However, RetroStudio is much more advanced. It allows players to both play and create their games inside its engine. The experience has been widely acclaimed for doing its part in capturing the vibe of the platform back during the early 2010s. It was also nominated for the 2022 Roblox Innovation Awards in the Builderman Award of Excellence category.
This article will be a beginner’s guide to the popular Roblox experience and explain how to start playing retro games.
RetroStudio: Guide
If you are looking to go back to the old-school Roblox, RetroStudio is going to be right up your alley. Immediately after you launch the game, you will be beset by the engine’s launcher, where inspired by the original Roblox website. By default, it has the original blue and white theme of the old website, but you can also change it by going into the settings.
Here is a breakdown of all of the launcher’s UI:
- Games: This tab on the title bar will be selected by default. You can browse for all of the games available in the launcher through this tab.
- Catalog: This tab allows you to buy cosmetics for your avatar inside RetroStudio.
- Avatar: Open this tab to customize your in-engine avatar.
- Retrobux: This is the in-game currency. You can get Retrobux by spending Robux. The exchange rate can differ depending on the active deals in the shop.
- Profiles: Under the title bar, you can access your and other people’s profiles.
- Promo Codes: The developers release promotional codes that you can redeem for free rewards.
- Rules: Relevant for both players and content creators.
- Settings: You can change in-game and in-engine settings, including customizing the theme of RetroStudio.
- Contests: This is the ongoing events tab.
How To Join a Game
Follow these steps to join a game in RetroStudio:
- Launch the experience in Roblox.
- Select the Games tab in the engine.
- You can sort the games by various filters such as Popular, Most Visited.
- Select a game and then press the Play button.
- Alternatively, select Server and join a specific server as indicated by the arrows in the image above.
You can join the official Discord server to stay up to date about RetroStudio’s development and the ongoing events. As of writing this, an Egg Hunt is going on and you can participate in hunting for eggs in a curated game.
