Everything you need to know about the Enhanced Gaping Jaw in Elden Ring Nightreign, and how to easily defeat the newly added boss.

Elden Ring Nightreign’s post-launch has kicked off, and that too with a rather “thunderous” roar. The very first content update for the game added the new Expedition – Everdark Sovereign, which comes with an empowered version of a previous Nightlord, Gaping Jaw. The new Enhanced Gaping Jaw is not only significantly more powerful than its regular counterpart but also sports new attacks and phases.
The Nightlord has access to an entirely new phase towards the middle of the boss fight, which is bound to catch returning players off guard. In addition to that, the Enhanced Gaping Jaw is also significantly more resilient to damage (physical and affinity).
Suffice it to say that defeating the Enhanced Gaping Jaw isn’t an easy task. However, it’s not impossible to defeat the new Nightlord, as long as you’re aware of its movesets. Here’s a comprehensive guide on how to overcome the Enhanced Gaping Jaw in Elden Ring Nightreign.
Overview of the Enhanced Gaping Jaw (Adel, Baron of Night) in Elden Ring Nightreign

On the surface, Enhanced Gaping Jaw is quite similar to its regular counterpart. However, once you start the boss fight, you’ll eventually notice major differences. Firstly, the enhanced variant starts the battle directly in its “enraged” state. You start the battle against the Gaping Jaw in its phase 2 state, where it is not only more resistant to damage but also has access to multiple AOE (area-of-effect) attacks.
Furthermore, once you deplete the boss’s health to roughly 70%, it will transition to its second phase. In this phase, he’s more susceptible to affinity attacks. However, he also gains more agility and access to a new “teleportation” combo.
The Enhanced Gaping Jaw also has a third phase, where it summons tornadoes on specific parts of the arena. You’re essentially required to use a Spiritspring to enter the eye of the tornado and fight the boss in there. This phase is the trickiest since it not only restricts the available space for you to dodge the boss’s attacks but also deals passive damage if you step out of the tornado. However, there’s a way to completely bypass the tornado phase, granted you play to the boss’s weakness.
Weaknesses of Enhanced Gaping Jaw

Like the regular Gaping Jaw, the enhanced variant is extremely weak to Poison. If you’re able to constantly inflict Poison on the boss, it will not only reduce its aggression (in the first two phases) but also stop it from summoning tornadoes. You can also use Frostbite and Scarlet Rot to melt the boss’s health. However, your best bet is to use Poison.
We highly recommend using the Relic obtained from defeating Gnostor (Sentient Pest) in your build. That Relic adds Poison to your starting armament and is a great option for a loadout against the Gaping Jaw. As for Nightfarers, we highly recommend using Wylder, Raider, Ironeye, or Recluse.
You can defeat the boss using Duchess or Revenant as well. However, given the amount of damage the boss dishes out, these classes aren’t all that effective, at least in co-op mode. For solo, you can easily defeat the boss using either Ironeye or Raider.
Tips To Easily Defeat Enhanced Gaping Jaw (Everdark Sovereign)

Here are some tips to easily defeat the Enhanced Gaping Jaw in Elden Ring Nightreign:
- At the start of the boss fight, don’t rush in towards the Gaping Jaw. Instead, as soon as you see the boss appear in the arena, hold your position and let it perform the first slam attack. This gives you enough time to dodge the AOE and retaliate immediately with a counterattack. Additionally, if you have your Ultimate Art prepared, we recommend using it right at the start of the battle. That way, you’re dishing out damage and also get time to recharge the Ultimate gauge.
- Make sure at least one of your party members is carrying a poison weapon. Ideally, you want an Ironeye to carry poison. However, Wylder is also a good option, as he can rush towards the boss and deal consistent affinity damage. Also, if you get the option, we highly recommend picking up Physical Damage Negation and Affinity Attack Power Up passives.
- Once the boss summons a tornado, quickly head for a spiritspring. Note that Adel does telegraph where it’s going to summon the tornado. However, given the chaotic nature of the battle, it can be difficult to spot. The best way to take note of the tornado is to keep an eye on the boss and stay at a medium distance.
- Unless you have poisoned the boss, it will summon tornadoes twice during the battle. However, the tornado phase isn’t permanent as it dissipates after a few minutes. If you’re not getting enough opportunities to attack, it’s best to focus on surviving the boss until the tornado clouds have subsided.
Additional Notes
Defeating the Enhanced Gaping Jaw grants you Sovereign Sigils. The Sigils are a new currency and can be used to buy powerful new Relics at the Roundtable Hold.
