1) Lies of P
Depending on who you ask, Lies of P may be the best Soulslike game of all time. The game has an immaculate atmosphere reminiscent of Bloodborne. The combat, too, takes cues from Bloodborne, throwing you into frantically paced combat scenarios. There’s no shield to hide behind, and the only way to move is forward. While it does fall a little short in terms of exploration, it more than makes up for it with its story. This is the best story in any Soulslike, and one worth experiencing. Pick this up during the Steam Summer Sale 2025.
2) The First Berserker: Khazan
If Lies of P took cues from Sekiro, The First Berserker: Khazan takes inspiration from Sekiro. This game has the exact parry system that Sekiro does, and that is your only means of defense since the game does not have a shield. The game later expands your parries with extensive counterattacking options, making you even stronger. The level design in Khazan is weak for sure, but if combat and challenging bosses are what you love about Soulslikes, there’s no game better than The First Berserker: Khazan.

3) The Lords of the Fallen
Lords of the Fallen lets you create your own character and dictate your playstyle as you see fit. It follows the Souls formula to a T, which is most apparent in its level design. There are a ton of secrets to uncover in its levels, but more so, tons of shortcuts and interconnected pathways. This game has the best level design and exploration out of any game on this list. If that is the bread and butter you seek, then you can’t go wrong with The Lords of the Fallen. Make sure you purchase the 2023 edition.
4) Nine Sols
While we were considering giving Hollow Knight this slot, we ultimately went with Nine Sols, as it does combat much better. Nine Sols adapts the parry-based Sekiro combat you know and love, mixing it with the 2D Metroidvania level design of Hollow Knight. There’s a ton of depth to its combat, and you’re expected to master it if you wish to keep up with the increasingly challenging bosses. Besides the combat, the art design is gorgeous. This is one of the more colorful Soulslikes, and we really need more of those.

5) Nioh 2
The original Nioh was one of the first proper attempts we had seen at a Soulslike game, but one that never fully realized its potential. Nioh 2 takes everything you loved about the original and expands upon it. This game has an extensive loot system with tons of intricate stats for each part. The weapons, too, are solid, and each weapon comes with powerful abilities that let you shred through enemies. The story is bizarre, to say the least, presenting an alternate reality tale with supernatural elements. There’s a ton to like here, and we recommend picking this one up during the Steam Summer Sale 2025.
