As mentioned above, the event will begin on July 16 (10:00 PM UTC). It will run for a total of two weeks, until August 1, 2025 (9:59 PM UTC). So, you will have ample time to complete the event and claim your rewards.
The ‘Story Event’ description implies some form of narrative content. Fortunately, Cygames has confirmed this via an in-game notice.

What Will the Brand New Friends Event Be About in Umamusume Pretty Derby?
You will be able to obtain various rewards from this event. These will also include event-exclusive Support Cards, which will be a priority to claim. However, along with these rewards, the notices also informed us about the content of this event.
Your main objective will be to train your Umamusume to collect Event Points. These Event Points will allow you to obtain the aforementioned rewards. Moreover, as you train your units, you will also unlock an exclusive story for specific characters.
