RTX 4080 Laptop GPU stacked against an RTX 5070 Ti Laptop GPU. Find out which one is the better option for you.

The RTX 4080 and RTX 5070 Ti mobile are both 12GB VRAM laptop GPUs. These are usually found on laptops priced less than $2500, or sometimes higher, placing them in the high-end territory. Both of these GPUs are similarly specced and are incredible options for mobile computing. That said, the differences are stated below.

RTX 4080 Laptop vs RTX 5070 Ti Laptop: Detailed Comparison

Specs Comparison
Here are the specs of RTX 4080 Mobile and the RTX 5070 Ti Mobile:
Specifications | RTX 4080 Mobile | RTX 5070 Ti Mobile |
Architecture | Ada Lovelace | Blackwell |
Lithography | TSMC 5N | TSMC 4N FinFET |
Shading Units | 7424 | 5888 |
TMUs | 232 | 184 |
SM Count: | 56 | 46 |
Tensor Cores: | 232 | 184 |
RT Cores: | 58 | 46 |
L1 Cache: | 128 KB per SM | 128 KB per SM |
L2 Cache: | 48 MB | 48 MB |
Memory Size | 12 GB | 12 GB |
Memory Type | GDDR6 | GDDR7 |
Memory Width | 192-bit | 192-bit |
Memory Bandwidth | 432 GB/s | 672 GB/s |
TDP (Configurable) | 60-175 W | 60-140 W |
From the specs, the 4080 has an outright advantage in core counts, but real-world gaming performance won’t matter that much because of the 192-bit memory bus and the 12GB VRAM; even if you try to drive the maximum settings at 1440p (which technically matches the display resolution that this range of laptops offers), you’ll soon deplete your VRAM.
The following reason is the power and voltage limitations. If you cross-check, the desktop variants of these GPUs have a higher than 250W power consumption, and without such a higher power budget, these GPUs don’t shine in performance.
Also, buying a laptop based on the desktop GPU’s performance is entirely pointless, as these are mobile iterations and do not represent the actual capabilities. Only the 60 series, like the 4060 and 5060, match the specifications of their desktop counterparts.
Synthetic Performance Comparison

The synthetic scores clearly demonstrate that architectural optimizations and greater memory bandwidth provide an advantage over the 4080 in some benchmarks, even though the results remain limited. The 4080 is in no way a slower GPU, as it trades blows accordingly with the new 5070 Ti.
Benchmark | RTX 4080 Mobile | RTX 5070 Ti Mobile |
Blender (Optix) | 9051 | 7521 |
GeekBench Open CL | 160866 | 223000 |
3D Mark TimeSpy | 16,638 | 17,437 |
3D Mark Firestrike | 41,870 | TBD (will update once more data arrives) |
3D Mark Port Royal (RT) | 11226 | TBD (will update once more data arrives) |
Gaming Performance Comparison
The data is sourced from Hubwood’s YouTube channel, where the person tested two laptops with RTX 4080 and RTX 5070 Ti GPUs with near identical specs at 1440p resolution, with max settings.
Games | RTX 4080 Mobile | RTX 5070 Ti Mobile |
Assassins Creed Shadows | 48 FPS | 49 FPS |
Cyberpunk 2077 | 84 FPS | 82 FPS |
Far Cry 6 | 133 FPS | 135 FPS |
Forza Horizon 5 | 124 FPS | 135 FPS |
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle | 110 FPS | 101 FPS |
Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 | 88 FPS | 89 FPS |
Despite a considerable difference in core counts, the 5070 Ti very closely matches the 4080 Mobile, and in some games is faster. For AAA gaming, if you can find a 4080 laptop costing less than the 5070 TI or vice versa, pick either; both are incredible. When it comes to gaming, there isn’t an outright winner.
Final Verdict on RTX 4080 Laptop vs RTX 5070 Ti Laptop
In the super high-end territory, where both GPUs have identical performance despite spec differences and the same VRAM, choosing the cheaper option makes the most sense. Opting for features like DLSS MFG isn’t a wise decision, as selecting the 4080, provided it’s more affordable, and using lossless scaling with the DLSS Transformer model will yield results nearly identical to MFG’s. On a laptop screen, at this price point, the PPI count is incredible, meaning even with ultra-performance upscaling, you won’t notice many differences.
