Learn how to defeat Rocket Boss, Giovanni, for the chance to capture Shadow Giratina in Pokemon GO Delightful Days Taken Over
Pokemon GO players will have a chance to save Shadow Giratina during the Delightful Days: Taken Over event. Running from August 11, 2025, at 12:00 a.m. to August 17, 2025, at 11:59 p.m., as per local time, players will be able to battle the leader of Team GO Rocket, Giovanni.
Doing so will give players the chance to get a Shadow Pokemon version of Giratina of their own. In order to beat Giovanni, players will be able to collect the Super Rocket Radar through Special Research to hunt him down.
How To Hunt and Battle Giovanni in Pokemon GO Delightful Days Taken Over
At the beginning of this event, a new Special Research will be unlocked for players. On completing it, they will be rewarded with a Super Rocket Radar. By activating the item, the next Team GO Rocket encounter will be guaranteed to be against Boss Giovanni. Players will have until 9:59 am local time on September 2, 2025, to claim this Special Research.
The team that Giovanni will be using is as follows:
- Shadow Persian, which is his standard lead in all of his battles in the game
- One of Shadow Rhyperior, Shadow Nidoking, or Shadow Kangaskhan, which will vary
- His ace of this event, Shadow Giratina
Best Pokemon GO Team to Beat Giovanni and Shadow Giratina
These are some of the Pokemon you should consider bringing against Giovanni and Shadow Giratina:
- A powerful Fighting-type to take on not only Shadow Persian, but also against Shadow Rhyperior/ Kangaskhan. These include Mega Lucario, Machamp, Terrakion, Annihilape, and Keldeo.
- For Shadow Giratina, there are several weaknesses to exploit. It is weak to Dragon, Ghost, Dark, Ice, and Fairy. Bring your most powerful Legendaries or other high BST Pokemon of those typings, like Garchomp or Salamence, to beat Giratina.
- Finally, as a means of checking Shadow Nidoking, as well as Shadow Rhyperior, consider a powerful Water-type like Kyogre or Mega Swampert. Kyogre also has Blizzard to hit Shadow Giratina for weakness.
