Roblox Chief Safety Officer Matthew Kaufman sells $800K worth of stocks just before a ban on predator catcher Schlep.

On August 7, 2025, Roblox’s Chief Safety Officer Matthew Kaufman sold over $800,000 worth of Roblox stock. A day later, Roblox sent a cease and desist letter to Schlep, a well-known predator catcher, and banned him from the platform.
The timing didn’t sit well with many users. Some are now asking Kaufman to step down, saying Roblox should be doing more to keep the young audience safe. SEC filings show Kaufman sold 6,000 shares for $133.67 each, making a total of $802,019. Kaufman still owns more than 301k Roblox shares. Even though the sale was planned, the timing just before a major controversy drew strong reactions from the community.

Roblox’s Letter to Schlep
On August 8, 2025, Schlep received a cease and desist letter accusing him of violating their Community Standards. The letter cited his methods as harmful, including simulating child endangerment conversations, sharing personally identifiable information, and directing users off-platform, which Roblox says interferes with safety protocols and exposes users to greater risk. Following this, Roblox closed all his accounts and warned against re-accessing the platform. to which Schlep responded on X, saying:
“Every account I’ve ever made on Roblox has been terminated, and Roblox sent a cease and desist letter to me. Not a single Roblox predator I’ve gotten arrested has faced any action similar to this. I have no words.“

ChloeGames also made a video talking about the ban and the community’s reaction, saying:
“I don’t think he should be forced to stop doing what he’s doing.”
Resignation Calls and Public Reaction
The letter that Schlep received, just a day after Kaufman’s stock sale, led to online petitions and calls for him to resign. Many believe Roblox is quick to punish people who try to expose predators but slow to take action against predator accounts themselves. @Zenha made a petition and tweeted saying:
“Matt Kaufman was the one that wrote this statement. I have officially made a petition, calling for his resignation as Roblox’s Chief Safety Officer. He needs to be held accountable.“

Players are sharing stories and criticizing Roblox’s safety systems across social media. Some say the company is more focused on its image than on protecting young users. The community backlash is underscored by influential voices like Ruben Sim.
“Roblox’s Chief Safety Officer Matthew Kaufman just dumped over $800,000 worth of stock. This comes right after the company threatened legal action through a cease and desist to the predator catcher @RealSchlep, and coincides with calls for his resignation. $RBLX”, tweeted @realRubenSim
RubenSim also highlighted how developer actions previously forced Roblox to reverse a ban on another creator:
“Developer pulling out of The Hatch made Roblox reverse their decision not to ban Teddy. If Star Creators pull out of the Star Program it could make them reverse their decision on banning Schlep.”
@mintythesilly was startled by the whole scenario. The contrast in action taken has made them realise something is off. They said:
“Roblox took their sweet damn time banning teddy and his games but IMMEDIATELY took action on Schlep not even 2 days after the vigilante rule. (with a whole a cease and desist???) I’ve said this multiple times, I’ll say it again. They movin a little weird here..” tweeted @mintythesilly
This situation is now bigger than one ban. It has started raising questions about Roblox’s priorities and accountability in protecting its young users.
