Doors got its major The Outdoors update on August 10, 2025, adding a whole new subfloor to explore. There’s more to see, more to avoid, and a few new tools to help you along the way. One of the simplest but most useful is the Shears. They don’t look like much, but they’ll slice through the vines hiding shortcuts and the path to the Outdoors.

Where To Find the Shears in Doors: The Outdoors
- Location: Shears spawn in the Courtyard area of the Hotel (Door 90).
- Spawn spots: Search item lockers or gardening closets, often near benches, planters, or at the edges of the courtyard.
- Appearance: The locker containing the Shears looks distinct and is usually easy to spot if it hasn’t been looted yet.

How To Pick Them Up and Keep Them Safe
- Collecting: Walk up to the Shears and interact with them. They are added straight to your inventory like other tools.
- Inventory management: Keep at least one slot free for the Shears; swapping them out by accident can ruin your run.
- Avoiding loss: If you die before using them, you’ll lose them and need to restart your hunt. Move carefully after picking them up, especially in dangerous rooms.
How To Use the Shears at Door 90
- Reach the Garden detour: Make your way to Door 90 and head into the garden section.
- Equip the Shears: Select them from your inventory.
- Cut the vines: Stand next to the overgrowth and press the interact button when prompted.
- Continue forward: Once cleared, walk through the path to access new areas or claim the Detour badge.
Extra Tips
- You may need a Skeleton Key (purchased earlier) to unlock the full Outdoors route.
- Shears are always found at Door 90 during the update period.
- The Outdoors subfloor has new hazards, stay alert after cutting through the vines.
