In this guide we will look at the best support Pokemon for the VGC format that are likely to be a huge presence at Worlds 2025.

While the Restricted Legendaries are going to be a big draw at Worlds 2025, they need the right support to do well. So in this article, we will focus on the Pokemon that have a different role in the VGC setup besides dealing damage. These support Pokemon can spread status, redirect moves with Follow Me or Rage Powder, priority flinch with Fake Out, enable speed control with Tailwind or Icy Wind, and much more.
Top 5 VGC Support Pokemon for Worlds 2025
These Pokemon will have a key role to play as supports for their teams at Worlds 2025:
- Farigiraf
- Whimsicott
- Ogerpon-Hearthflame
- Amoonguss
- Incineroar
5) Farigiraf

Farigiraf has a lot of things going for it as a support. Its ability Armor Tail protects its side of the field from priority moves like Fake Out. This Pokemon also has a relatively defensive typing in Normal/Psychic against the top-tier threat Calyrex Shadow Rider. And its movepool is full of moves that can help its allies, like the ally-boosting Helping Hand or the turn order reversing Trick Room. Even its offensive capabilities aren’t terrible, with Foul Play dealing huge damage to Pokemon with high Attack stats and Psychic Noise dealing STAB Psychic damage and preventing the target from healing.
4) Whimsicott

Whimsicott has been a staple of VGC since its inception. Its ability, Prankster, gives priority to all status moves used by it. The most prominent of these is Tailwind, which lets its side of the field move faster for four turns. Additional support moves include Encore to lock the target into a specific move, Light Screen to reduce the damage of incoming Special Attacks, and Helping Hand to give its ally an offensive boost.
3) Ogerpon Hearthflame

All the Ogerpons are great support picks, as they all have access to redirection in Follow Me and the damage-dealing Protect clone Spiky Shield; Hearthflame is the best one. Grass/Fire is an amazing offensive and defensive combination. The Grass-typing prevents sleep from Spore, and the Fire-typing prevents burns. As for damage, it can use a Fire-type Ivy Cudgel and Wood Hammer for STAB.
2) Amoonguss

Amoonguss may be the best Grass-type in VGC, solely because of its supporting capabilities. This mushroom has won Worlds on three separate occasions (2013, 2015, and 2024), each in a different generation. As further proof of how good this mon is, the moves it uses have changed very little over the years. It uses Spore for sleep, Rage Powder for redirection, Protect to stall, and Pollen Puff to either heal or attack.
Out of these moves, Pollen Puff is the only noteworthy change from Giga Drain because the move was introduced in Generation VIII. But its main claim to fame is the ability Regenerator, which heals a third of its HP each time it switches out. Combined with a Rocky Helmet for chip damage, Amoonguss remains an amazing support Pokemon.
1) Incineroar

Ever since Incineroar received the ability Intimidate, which lowers the Attack stat of the opponent by -1 each time it switches in, this Alolan big cat has been dominant in VGC as a support Pokemon. Incineroar has also won Worlds three times (2018, 2019, and 2022), with 2024 being the only year it failed to win, despite being both legal and having access to Intimidate. That looks to be a blip in its career, as its typing (Fire/Dark) and vast support movepool (Fake Out, Will-O-Wisp, Snarl, Parting Shot, Taunt, U-Turn, etc.) should easily ensure it sees success at Worlds 2025.
