The Mesa biome is one of the most difficult levels in PEAK. Trekking through the rocky desert, players must remain vigilant for cactus thorns, sun damage, and tumbleweeds that can knock scouts back. However, the biggest threat presented by the biome is tornadoes.

These twisters rampage across the level and ragdoll any players caught in their path. Their violent winds can be particularly devastating when players are thrown off in the middle of a climb and take fall damage, or if they are flung into cacti. This guide lists multiple methods to survive a tornado for various situations that players may find themselves in.

Find a Hiding Spot

The most accessible method to counter an approaching tornado is to find a safe spot to hide while it passes through. The best place to hide is an enclosed space surrounded by terrain on all sides. Try to find geographical features and locations such as crevices, tunnels, mineshafts, or caves.

Tornadoes pass through terrain, so taking cover behind a single rock or cliff is futile. As long as you are on the surface and near the tornado’s path, your character will be flung around by the strong winds. The worst place to be is in the open, as your character can be launched from their path, take fall damage, or get impaled on a cactus.

Evade the Tornado

When a tornado appears on the horizon, gauge its direction. If it seems to be heading straight toward you, move to either side, away from its path. When positioned on high ground, you can use a parasol and glide away to safety. This is the fastest and safest method of quickly avoiding a tornado. Even if you aren’t looking around for it, you’ll be able to hear the violent winds of an approaching tornado in time to take action.

Anchor Yourself To an Object

If you notice a tornado too late, or there is nowhere to run, grab onto an object such as a rope. Holding onto something will make it harder for the winds to blow you away from the spot. Some other things you can latch onto for support include chains, cliff surfaces, and embedded pickaxes. If the tornado tosses you in the air regardless, hold the Left Mouse Button to grab onto a surface whenever your character can, reducing the ragdoll effect.
