Learn how to tell the difference between mirages and real supplies in PEAK’s Mesa level with a simple trick.

The Mesa is a desert biome in PEAK, featuring rocky terrain and hostile conditions. Mesa is the third level of the game, randomly rotating with the frosty Alpine biome. The two are complete opposites; Alpine’s cold winds and frost damage juxtapose Mesa’s tornadoes and heat damage. At the height of day, the very sun damages players within the Mesa, requiring specific items like sunscreen and aloe vera to counter the heat.
However, the heat does more than drain the Scouts’ stamina bar, as it can play tricks on their minds. While trekking through the arid biome, you are likely to see objects and items that disappear upon getting closer.
These are mirages—illusions created by the heat. Seeking valuable loot promised by mirages, players can find themselves wasting valuable time and resources. However, there is a clever trick to tell actual objects apart from these desert illusions.
PEAK: Mirage Guide
Mirages are illusions exclusive to the Mesa biome in PEAK. They were added with the Mesa Update and make players challenge their own perception. Mirages are capable of taking the form of luggage bags and capybaras. However, these illusions aren’t schizophrenic in nature, but are caused by the desert heat. Simply approaching a mirage makes it disappear.
How To Recognize Mirages

You can tell if an object in the Mesa biome is a mirage by using the pointer feature. When you see a luggage bag or other object that you suspect to be a mirage, point your cursor at it and hold the middle mouse button. A pointer will appear at the location you’re looking at with your cursor. You can move your camera while holding the pointer button to reposition the pointer.
If the pointer passes through the object, it is a mirage. When the pointer interacts with the object by colliding with it or moving over it, it is real. You can use this trick in solo play as well as in co-op to quickly tell mirages apart from real supplies without approaching them, saving valuable time on the level.
PEAK: Is the Orange Scout a Mirage?

Players have reported seeing an orange-colored scout in the Mesa biome. The scout appears at a distance and peeks at the players from behind rocks, before seemingly vanishing into thin air. Some initially suspected the scout to be part of the mirages added with the Mesa Update.
However, the unsettling scout was also spotted in other biomes, including the Tropics, where no mirages appear. Therefore, according to player testimony, the Orange Scout in PEAK is not a mirage, but an unidentified survivor of the island who is stalking the protagonists.
What makes the mystery scout’s sightings even more chilling is that it only seems to appear when playing solo. Since it seems to exclusively stalk lone survivors, the scout’s intentions don’t seem benign, especially with cannibalism being a part of the game.
