With the Schlep drama rocking the Roblox community, the gaming company released a statement on August 13, 2025, defending their actions about banning vigilantes from the platform. On their official newsroom, Roblox claimed that “vigilante behavior creates an unsafe environment for users,” even if their actions are “seemingly well-intentioned.”

For context, Roblox banned Schlep and sent him a cease and desist letter earlier this month due to his vigilante actions. Schlep’s content on YouTube and online revolves around exposing child predators on the platform with his team called RoCatchers. This comes as the gaming company is facing multiple lawsuits about child exploitation in multiple states in the US. Popular Roblox creators such as KreekCraft defended Schlep after the Roblox ban, recently hinting that big YouTubers might boycott the Roblox Star Creator Program.

Amid all of this backlash, Roblox addressed the vigilante bans in their August 13 newsroom post and explained why they are removing such people from the platform.

Roblox Explains Why They Are Removing Vigilantes As Child Exploitation Lawsuits Mount in Numbers

In August 2025, the Dolmal Law filed a lawsuit against Roblox in Georgia, accusing it of facilitating child exploitation and failing to safeguard children from abuse. The lawsuit is not unique, with Dolman Law also filing a similar case against the company on behalf of a Florida family in July 2025. Earlier this year, an Indiana Family also accused Roblox of endangering children, with the lawsuit filed by Anapol Weiss, claiming that the company prioritizes profits over child safety.

With a rise in similar cases, the platform also saw a rise in vigilante groups where people such as Schlep and his team started reporting various people to Roblox and the authorities. After his ban, Schlep claimed to have facilitated the arrest of six predators.

In their newsroom post, Roblox did not mention Schlep. However, the company explained why vigilantes are being banned from the platform. They claim that while vigilantes have good intentions, they have been impersonating children to trap alleged predators by moving conversations off the platform. This, according to Roblox, goes against the website’s policies and is a safety concern.

The relevant section from the article reads as follows:

“Instead of just reporting on safety issues, vigilantes started impersonating children and actively sought to connect with adult users. Those conversations mimicked inappropriate behavior and actively encouraged other users to connect on other social media and messaging platforms—thus bypassing Roblox’s own safety systems.”

In another section, Roblox’s article was seemingly equating vigilantes and predators:

“Similar to actual predators, they [vigilantes] often impersonated minors, actively approached other users, then tried to lead them to other platforms to have sexually explicit conversations.”

All in all, Roblox encouraged users to use its app’s reporting feature to help remove bad actors from the platform. They recently made changes to how chats work in-game as well. There is a new age verification feature requiring a facial scan or a government ID. This feature aims to hinder adults from freely associating with minors. As it is a recent addition, only time will tell if such measures successfully tackle the problems.
