Titan Quest 2, much like any other ARPG, is all about building your character as you see fit. You’re dropped into a gorgeous Ancient Greece setting, and what you do with your character from then on is up to you. The game provides you with all the tools you need, and you can adopt any playstyle you like. If you’re anything like us, the sword and shield combo might be your go-to.
While the sword and shield combo is fairly well done in the game, one thing that may leave you confused is the shield itself. There’s no block button, and you’re left wondering how to put the shield to use. Thankfully, we have the answer, but you may not like it.

How To Use the Shield in Titan Quest 2
You use shields in Titan Quest 2 by…not really using them. Yes, you read that right. You can’t really use the shield in the game. It has no mechanics tied to it, meaning you can’t use it to block. So what purpose does it really serve? Well, it works more as an off-hand item that grants you a perk.
The shields in Titan Quest 2 come with their unique perks and passives. Equipping a shield gives you access to said perks and passives. So essentially, the shield is just a piece of armor that you equip to gain perks. The shield also boosts the potency of your Barrier skill, but the difference isn’t so noticeable as to be worthwhile.
With that said, shields aren’t useless. In our playthrough, we found tons of shields that had legitimately powerful effects. For instance, one shield we found gave us extra vigor and energy, making us more potent in battle overall. The shield also came with ice resistance, which improved survivability against certain enemies. If you’re building your style around shields, these are the ones you should be looking for.
