What is EGO in Archived?

EGO is a transformation that players can activate once they meet the unlock conditions. By pressing [J] at Emotion Level 1 or 2, your character manifests their EGO form. This transformation comes with unique cosmetic changes, glowing eyes, and a colored aura. More importantly, EGO grants:

  • A unique weapon tied to the specific EGO.
  • Two exclusive combat skills.
  • +3 maximum dice.
  • Guardbreak on your final M1.
  • Enhanced running attacks.

An EGO form lasts up to 4 minutes before ending, after which a 30-minute cooldown applies across your account, making it an emergency option or the last resort.

Getting your first EGO requires meeting a few conditions:

  1. Reach Grade 3 – Progress through missions, contracts, and bosses until you reach this level.
  2. Gain EGO Experience – Farm EXP through:
    • Burning pages from books
    • Defeating other players
    • Completing contracts
    • Using the Seed of Light item

Once you’ve gained enough EGO EXP, you’ll need to survive the Night in the Backstreets perma-death event, but if you die during this event, your screen will flash, and a cutscene will begin. You’ll see multiple dialogue options, but only one matters:

Select “I don’t need your help.”

Choosing this revives you, restores your HP, and officially awakens your EGO. If you pick the wrong option, you will be instantly wiped.

How To Use Your EGO

After awakening, using your EGO is simple:

  • Activate EGO: Press [J] when at Emotion Level 1 or 2.
  • Summon Weapon: Hold [Y] before pressing [J] to manifest with its weapon.
  • Combat Boosts: Gain stronger attacks, new pages, and enhanced movement for the duration.

Note: EGO is not a permanent buff; it is a temporary state that gives you a power-up while you are in combat to give you an upper hand.

If you don’t like your first EGO, you can reroll or directly choose a new one using special items:

  • Uncharged Golden Bow – Randomly rerolls your EGO.
  • Golden Bow – Lets you type in and awaken a specific EGO of your choice.

Both items drop from Night in the Backstreets, Contracts, Dungeons, or the Library.

Unlocking your first EGO in Archived is a big milestone and may take some grinding, as you need to reach Grade 3 first by farming EGO EXP and then surviving the tense Night in the Backstreets event. But once awakened, you’ll have access to an OP transformation that will give you an edge in combat.
