So using the Spur ability will help keep your horse ahead in the race. But timing is crucial. Before a sharp turn is set to arrive, make sure to pause the use of Spur to avoid bumbling into obstacles. Also, minimize the use of Spurs when surrounded by other horse racers, as it would nullify the effect of them.
Dashing into the other races will significantly drop the speed of your horse and set you back by some positions. It is also advisable not to use Spur when racing through narrow lanes. Last but not least, keep at least one Spur handy for the final stretch of the race. The path to the finish line is a long, straight one, and using the Spur will be most effective then.
