The wait for Hollow Knight Silksong is finally over, as Team Cherry has given us a confirmed release date of September 4, 2025. In the special livestream held on Team Cherry’s official YouTube channel, they revealed the release date in a brand new trailer for the game.

In the trailer, we see Hornet travelling through an entirely new map that looks very different from Hallownest, where Hollow Knight is set. Not only do we learn about the locations of the new map, but we also notice many small details that are easy to overlook in the brief trailer. Here are five things you might have missed in the Hollow Knight Silksong teaser.

Hornet Can Swim

Just like back in Hollow Knight, you can also swim in Silksong. In the prequel, you had to collect a power-up known as Isma’s Tear, which allowed the Knight to swim through acid lakes. In Silksong, Hornet seems to be swimming through a marsh or swamp biome filled with few new types of enemies.

Silksong introduces lava as a new type of environmental hazard, which Hornet has to escape from using precise acrobatics.

Hornet Has a Separate Dash and Run

When it comes to movement, Hornet is much more agile than the Knight in the prequel. Not only does Hornet have a dash, but she can also run on command. Running is an integral part of movement, but it also has uses during boss fights. One small section of the teaser showcased a new flying boss, which Hornet has to flee from using the new running mechanic.

Some abilities are also tied to the run mechanic, as Hornet can charge at enemies using her needle to start the fight.

New Bosses and Enemies

While the teaser already showcases many new types of enemies and unique bosses, the actual count is much higher than anyone anticipated. Silksong will have over 200 types of foes and over 40 legendary bosses on launch. Note that Hollow Knight has a total of 47 bosses you can fight, which includes the ones from DLCs and additional updates.

It is highly plausible that the number of enemies increases in the future if Team Cherry decides to release DLCs for the game.

New Storyline

Silksong teaser seems to have an entirely new storyline, which is not connected to Hallownest in Hollow Knight. Hornet’s primary objective in Silksong is to restore a kingdom’s hope, which appears to be a location in Pharloom.

In the events of Hollow Knight, Hornet gets captured and brought to Pharloom, the place where Silksong is going to take place.

Air Currents

Another significant mechanic that is easy to miss in the teaser is the presence of Air Currents. These vertical airways appear to enable Hornet to ascend using the air currents. Moreover, these air currents might be designed to travel between different regions or hard-to-reach locations.

One small section of the teaser shows a large section of Silksong’s map, which already looks much more expansive than that of the prequel.
