World of Warcraft’s upcoming Midnight expansion is set to bring tons of new content, and the Prey system might be the most exciting.

If you’re a World of Warcraft veteran, there is nothing the game does that surprises you anymore. The quests, builds, and exploration – all are routine now and feel like second nature. To combat this, World of Warcraft Midnight is bringing a new Prey system.
World of Warcraft Midnight’s Prey system will shake up how things work in the open world. The Prey system will assign you a prey to hunt, and there’s a lot more to this system than the reductionist logline. We shall discuss this in detail below.

How the Prey System Works in World of Warcraft Midnight

As stated earlier, the Prey system in World of Warcraft Midnight assigns you a prey to hunt. You can select a target, and then select a difficulty for the same target. Once you’ve done so, your prey will then be out in the wild in the open world, and can strike at you any time.
While the Prey system pushes you to select the prey, the way it works makes you the prey more often than not. Your prey sets up ambushes across the open world, and you never know when they may strike. You have to be on edge, or risk losing your status as the predator.
Once your prey tries to ambush you, it kicks off a fight. These fights are not your run-of-the-mill fights against normal grunts. The encounters are long and tedious, and fully test your skills at the game. On the harder difficulties, you’ll have to face your prey in a full arena boss fight.
These fights are meant to be one of the hardest the game has to offer, and are certainly worth your while with the rewards they net you. Emerging victorious and vanquishing your prey gets you rewards such as new cosmetics, housing decorations, mounts, and so much more.
