Last Epoch on PC works as well as you would expect from a Unity engine game. While it’s not perfect, it runs quite well on various PC configurations, which should not be surprising considering Unity runs fairly smoothly even on lower-end systems. That being said, much like any other Unity engine-powered game, Last Epoch is quite heavy on VRAM. As such, the game can chug on PCs with limited VRAM. Although the game’s system requirements mention 6 GB as the recommended amount of VRAM, we found that Last Epoch regularly dips close to 7 GB of VRAM usage.

That said, with some clever tweaks, you can get Last Epoch running fairly well on your PC. Here’s a comprehensive PC optimization guide for Last Epoch and the best settings for optimal performance.

Ideally, you want to keep Last Epoch’s VRAM usage close to your GPU’s maximum VRAM, but not exceeding it. For instance, if you’re using a GPU with 4 GB VRAM, you want to keep the game close to 4 GB. However, at 1080p, Last Epoch easily exceeds 4 GB VRAM usage, even at Medium settings. The biggest factor that affects VRAM usage is Shadow Quality and Textures. Textures, in particular, determine how much VRAM the game is allowed to use. Keeping Textures at Medium makes sure that the game doesn’t go past 4 GB VRAM usage.
