In this guide, we’ll explore how you can install and start up the Rimworld Common Sense mod and what it does.

If you’re hooked on Rimworld’s core gameplay mechanics but frustrated about parts of the game, you aren’t alone. The game has an extremely active modding community that looks to rectify or improve the base gameplay experience. In that regard, perhaps none fares better than the Rimworld Common Sense mod. This is the mod you need to try out, especially if you are frustrated by the behaviors of your colonists in the game.
Created by Anvil, this mod forces your colonists to act smarter. In the following article, we’ll take a look at how you can download and install the Common Sense mod and more about what it does.
How To Download and Install the Rimworld Common Sense Mod

To install the mod, you will first need to download it. For that, visit the mod’s Rimworld Workshop page on Steam. Once there, subscribe to the mod or to the creator. If you own the Steam version of the game, subscribing should automatically begin the mod download. After the mod download is complete, Steam will also install the mod to your game automatically. So, you don’t have to do anything but wait until the install process is complete.
However, if you have a non-Steam version, you have to scroll down to the bottom of the Common Sense mod page and click on the GitHub link there. Follow the instructions on the GitHub page to download the mod. Now, open the ZIP file and extract the file titled RimWorld_CommonSense-master into the game’s Mods directory. If you don’t have such a directory, create one. It should be within the Rimworld root folder, where you’ve installed the game.
Keep in mind that the Common Sense mod requires the Harmony mod to function properly. So make sure to download and install the Harmony mod before you activate the Common Sense mod. Also, after installing the mod, you will have to launch the game and activate it manually from within the Mods menu. This is pretty much the same process you’ll have to follow when activating the other top Rimworld mods.
What Does the Rimworld Common Sense Mod Do?
As we said earlier, the mod makes your colonists smarter. After activating it, they will begin to make more sensible choices. Instead of waiting on your go-ahead for some outdoor time, colonists who want to spend some time outside will simply do it by themselves. Similarly, they won’t wait around outside in bad weather any longer. Instead, they’ll quickly protect themselves and head in. The mod also offers several other settings to make your settlers feel more lifelike. For instance, with this active, you can now rely on colonists to clean up after themselves.
All of these can impact your overall experience significantly. With your colonists becoming more self-sufficient in many regards, you can focus your attention on other important matters. However, if you’re someone who enjoys the silly vanilla colonist experience, the mod also lets you customize what changes you want to apply. So, if you don’t want your colonists to clean up after tending to a patient, you can turn that specific feature off.
