Lone Wolf is a passive (green) skill in Umamusume Pretty Derby that increases Speed by 40 if no other runner in a race possesses the skill. Unlike similar passives, the skill is not upgradable. Lone Wolf is the only passive Speed skill that can be activated regardless of track, distance, conditions, or bracket number. It is far more likely to activate than “Maverick,” which increases Speed if no other racer is using the same running style.

  • Base Cost: 70
  • Effect: +40 Speed

Lone Wolf is a rare skill compared to staples like “Standard Distance” and “Firm Conditions,” with only a handful of Support Cards providing it. Support cards that teach Lone Wolf through hints or events include:

  • SSR Mejiro Palmer (Guts)
  • SR Narita Taishin (Speed)
  • SR Sweep Tosho (Speed)
  • R Narita Taishin (Speed)

SR Narita Taishin is the best support card for obtaining Lone Wolf, as she provides it through skill hints. Sweep Tosho has a higher likelihood of teaching Lone Wolf, but it comes at the cost of -1 Mood during the ‘Premeditated Mischief’ training event. Narita Taishin and Narita Brian possess Lone Wolf as an innate skill and don’t need support cards to learn it.

Lone Wolf is the best passive skill in Umamusume Pretty Derby. Among passives, Speed skills are generally the most useful if they have a high likelihood of activation. This is because once you have met the Stamina requirements and maxed out the Speed stat through training, the only way to achieve higher top speeds is through skills.

If used with basic planning, there is no real downside to investing in Lone Wolf. However, when team building comes into play for PvP modes, there is a little more nuance to its use.

Career

Lone Wolf has no downsides in Career mode and will almost always activate, providing a substantial +40 Speed increase for a small SP cost. If your trainee is lacking Speed in Career mode before an upcoming race, investing in Lone Wolf might save the day.

Team Trials

Only one of your veteran uma from each team should have the Lone Wolf skill. Before you invest in Lone Wolf during a trainee’s career, think about which Team Trials sub-team you plan to employ her for. Then, exit the career and check the members on that sub-team for Lone Wolf. If neither of them has the skill, invest in it; otherwise, skip it and use the SP somewhere else.

Champions Meeting

Lone Wolf is an excellent skill for one of your runners to have in Champions Meeting. If no other team has the skill, Lone Wolf will activate, and one of your runners will have a +40 Speed advantage. If another runner has the skill, you have ensured that they do not benefit from the additional Speed.
