Oak-Aged Cask is an Armor Shield of Legendary rarity. Its unique effect, “Vintage,” causes the shield to have only one armor segment. However, the singular segment has a vast capacity, which can make for powerful synergies when combined with the right playstyle. Once you’re halfway through the story and reach the mid-game in Borderlands 4, the Oak-Aged Cask is worth seeking out.
Borderlands 4: Oak-Aged Cask Location
You can obtain the Oak-Aged Cask Legendary Shield by defeating the Skull Orchid boss located in Embossed Fault, Abandoned Auger Mine. The mine is situated in the southern Grindstone of the Worthy area, Carcadia Burn. To unlock Auger Mines, you’ll have to complete the 11th main story mission, ‘Shadow of the Mountain.’
Head into the Embossed Fault mine and reach its final room to find the Skull Orchid boss. You have a small chance of receiving Oak-Aged Cask upon defeating Skull Orchid. If you don’t obtain it on the first try, use Moxxi’s Big Encore station at the boss arena’s entrance to repeat the fight.

The Oak-Aged Cask has only one Armor segment, but it more than makes up for it with its enormous capacity. When the shield takes damage in combat, a bar will slowly charge above it. When the bar is fully charged, the shield instantly regenerates to full capacity. Therefore, it is advisable to equip Oak-Aged Cask before engagements rather than during firefights. You can instantly replenish the shield with armor segment booster drops, making it overpowered when fighting large groups of enemies.
- As an Armor Shield, Oak-Aged Cask fares well against most enemy elemental damage types besides Corrosive. As a result, one of the best Oak-Aged Cask drops you can get is with resistance against Corrosive damage.
- Skills that increase shield capacity, shield recharge rate, or restore shields synergize extremely well with Oak-Aged Cask.
