With the Title Update 3 (TU3), Capcom added a ton of new features and content to Monster Hunter Wilds, chief among them being the Final Fantasy 14 collaboration. However, the true highlight of the update is easily the new monster, Omega Planetes. Usually, most monsters in MHW come with one armor set associated with them, and a handful of weapons (for all 14 weapon types).

However, in the case of Omega Planetes, Capcom has added two whole armor sets dedicated to the monster. That is alongside three new weapons, each with its own unique skills. However, crafting these new gear will require quite a bit of effort (and grinding). One of the rarest resources needed to craft the new Omega gear is the Omega Axle.

Surprisingly enough, the game doesn’t fully explain how you can get the Omega Axle. While it does tell you that breaking Omega’s back is a surefire way to get the Axle, doing so is far easier said than done. Here’s everything you need to know about Omega Axle in Monster Hunter Wilds, and how to obtain it.

Most of the materials needed to craft the Omega gear can be obtained simply by destroying wounds on Omega Planetes. The only outliers to this rule are Omega Lens, Omega Nodule, and Omega Axle. All three of these materials have very low drop chance, with Omega Nodule having only 3% chance of showing up as a carving reward. Omega Axle, on the other hand, has an 11% drop rate.

However, it’s still quite low, especially considering you need 28 of these Axles to craft all the weapons and armor sets from Omega. That said, you can also get Omega Axle as a guaranteed drop by breaking the monster’s back. However, given the monster’s unique physiology and skeleton, it’s not easy to break Omega’s back, even with weapons like the Insect Glaive.

Thankfully, there’s a very easy way to get a guaranteed “back break” on every hunt. You essentially need to topple Omega and hit the “siren-like” structure on its back.

To break Omega’s back, you need to topple the monster. To do so, you need to first break Omega Planetes’ legs. All of Omega’s legs are armored; however, with enough damage and wounds, you can easily chip away at said armor. Once you break the armor covering the legs, Omega gets toppled, which exposes its back and the siren. Furthermore, this is a really good opportunity to deal a ton of damage to the monster.

It should be noted that Omega’s hind limbs are weak to Slash damage, whereas the front legs are weak to Blunt damage. Furthermore, you can only topple Omega a total of 4 times throughout the entire fight. However, if you’re smart with your positioning, you can easily break the siren in just two topples.

While you can get Omega Axle from both regular and Savage Omega Planetes, we recommend using the former to farm most of the materials.
