Monster Hunter Wilds’ latest title update added a ton of new content for returning players to delve into. From new Event Quests to an entirely new monster, i.e., Omega Planetes, there’s plenty to do for returning fans of the game. While most title updates only add a new monster or two, a few Event Quests, and the Season of Accord, TU3 comes with more, and an entirely new playstyle and tool, in the form of Pictomancy.

Added as part of the Final Fantasy 14 collaboration, Pictomancy essentially serves as an additional mechanic that can be used during hunts. It’s essentially a way of dealing additional damage, especially during the Omega Planetes hunts. However, the game doesn’t do a great job of explaining how you can equip and use Pictomancy Spells.

Here’s everything you need to know about Pictomancy in Monster Hunter Wilds, and how to equip (and use) these spells.

Pictomancy essentially works as an additional tool that you can access at any time during combat. It works somewhat similarly to Akuma’s abilities that were added with the Street Fighter 6 collaboration (in TU2). However, unlike the Akuma skills, Pictomancy isn’t tied to any armor set or Layered Armor. You can essentially equip Pictomancy as any other tool on your quick access bar or Radial Menu.

While not necessary, Pictomancy does help a lot against Omega Planetes. There are three spells that you can cast using Pictomancy – Pom Motif, Wing Motif, and Mog of the Ages. Pom Motif has a cooldown of 15 seconds. Whereas Wing Motif and Mog of the Ages both have a 30-second cooldown. Furthermore, you cannot use any spell as you feel like.

You always have to start with Pom Motif and eventually make your way up to Mog of the Ages. Pom Motif deals an accumulated damage of roughly 800, whereas Wing Motif can deal up to 1000 damage, granted you can cast it directly on Omega. Mog of the Ages can deal between 990-1100 damage, depending on the parts you target.

If you use Mog of the Ages on a monster’s broken (or wounded) appendage, it can easily deal upwards of 1100 damage.

Equipping Pictomancy is quite easy. You can either access it via your Radial Menu or via your quick access bar. However, to get access to Pictomancy, you need to have reached Hunter Rank (HR) 41 and complete the newly added The Artifact’s Words quest. After completing The Artifact’s Words, you will get access to Soul of the Pictomancer, which grants you the ability to use Pictomancy spells.

To equip Pictomancy, simply head to your Pop-up Camp, and under Manage Items, transfer the Soul of the Pictomancer to your quick access bar. After that, you can also equip Pictomancy (Pom Motif) to your Radial Menu to access it instantly during combat.
