Monster Hunter Wilds doesn’t have any shortage of monsters that can often feel a tad too overtuned, just look at the new 9 Star Tempered Monsters, for instance. However, these “high difficulty” monsters are completely optional and also feature regular variants that can be used to grind for weapons and armor. However, with Omega Planetes, it seems Capcom has pushed the envelope a bit too far.

While the new collaboration monster is a spectacle to behold, both in terms of its presentation and battle, it’s easily one of, if not the most challenging monsters in the entire game (thus far). Not only does Omega have the HP of what is usually reserved for Master Rank (or G Rank) monsters, but it also hits really, really hard.

And for those reasons alone, some players might think Omega to be a tad unfair, especially for High Rank. However, is Omega Planetes really an unfair monster in Monster Hunter Wilds? Or, is it just a difficult monster that requires a bit more planning than usual High Rank content? Let’s find out in this article.

Why Omega Planetes Feels Unfair in Monster Hunter Wilds?

The primary reason that contributes to Omega Planetes feeling overtuned (and even unfair) in Monster Hunter Wilds is the structure of the battle. Unlike most High Rank content in the game, the encounter against Omega is structured more akin to an MMORPG raid. Unlike most monsters, Omega has 4 different phases, each adding a new “gimmick” to the battle, which also increases the ferocity of the monster itself.

If that’s not all, Omega’s HP (regular and Savage) always scales to 4 players in multiplayer. This means, if you plan to tackle the monster with just another friend or a single Support Hunter, you’ll still have to contend with the monster’s HP being scaled for 4 Hunters. In addition to that, Omega also has not one, but two DPS checks, which vastly impact the encounter’s pacing.

In addition to that, Omega is one of the few monsters in the game that heavily relies on AOE attacks to deal damage. The final phase of Omega Planetes, especially, feels more chaotic than Tempered Gore Magala. All this gives a clear picture of why some players might consider Omega overtuned and perhaps even unfair.

However, if tackled on its own terms, Omega Planetes is one of the most satisfying battles in Monster Hunter Wilds.

Why Omega Planetes’ Difficulty Is the Perfect Fit for Monster Hunter Wilds’ Endgame?

While Monster Hunter Wilds did have its fair share of difficult monsters, most of them feel “artificially difficult.” The difficulty of the 9 Star Tempered Monsters, for example, comes primarily from their bloated attributes and tendency to “one-shot” Hunters. However, that’s not the case with Omega Planetes. It’s perhaps the first monster since MHW’s release that actually makes you think about your build.

While yes, Omega does have a ton of health, but if you approach the monster with the right build, the HP won’t even feel like an issue. For a very long time, Monster Hunter Wilds was lacking a true endgame Monster. Yes, 9 Star Tempered Monsters do offer some incentive to engage with the endgame. However, let’s be real, very few Hunters are going to grind them for just some Talismans.

This is where Omega comes into play. Omega Planetes not only offers a real endgame challenge but also rewards that feel befitting said challenge.
