Everything you need to know about the True Shadowbringer in Monster Hunter Wilds, and whether it’s worth crafting or not.

The True Shadowbringer is easily the most powerful Great Sword thus far in Monster Hunter Wilds. It makes perfect sense that the most challenging monster in the base game also comes with a weapon that easily outclasses most monster weapons of the same weapon type. However, what’s even more surprising is that True Shadowbringer can also outclass Artian Weapons, albeit under very specific conditions.
There’s no doubt that the True Shadowbringer is an excellent Great Sword. However, if you’ve already eased into an Artian build, is it really worth going through the hassle of crafting the new weapon? Or is it better to stick to Artian Weapons for the Level 3 Decoration slots?
Let’s take a look at the nitty-gritty of the True Shadowbringer and find out if it’s worth crafting in Monster Hunter Wilds.

Overview of the True Shadowbringer Great Sword in Monster Hunter Wilds

At first glance, the True Shadowbringer doesn’t look like anything special. It’s an elemental Great Sword with decent Dragon Attack and raw, nothing too fancy. In terms of stats, the weapon is somewhere between Dusterstolz (Gore Magala GS) and Stalwart Lamorak (Arkveld GS), albeit without any Affinity. However, the weapon really shines once you take a look at its skills.
Here are the stats of the True Shadowbringer:
- Attack: 200
- Affinity: 0%
- Element: 600 (Dragon)
The True Shadowbringer and Shadowbringer come with the Darkside skill. The description of the skill states that it increases the power of your Level 2 (or higher) charged attacks, albeit for a short while. However, Darkside does much more than just that. It not only grants you a damage buff, but also increases the range of your Charged Slashes (and TCS).
Essentially, landing a charged attack with Shadowbringer sends out a wave of energy, which deals bonus raw damage. Pair that with the attack boost, and you can easily dish out upwards of 1000-1200 damage with a perfectly timed TCS. However, there’s a catch: with every charged slash, the Shadowbringer will drain 10% of your HP, even when the attack buff is on cooldown.
This means, using the weapon can bring you closer to death if you don’t position yourself well. However, with the Recovery Speed skill, you can easily mitigate part of the damage the weapon deals to your HP. Also, since it brings your HP to “red,” you can pair Shadowbringer with Resentment to further increase your raw DPS.
Is the True Shadowbringer (Omega GS) Worth Crafting?

Yes, Shadowbringer is totally worth crafting. After all, it’s the most powerful weapon (Great Sword) in the base game. However, do make sure to use this weapon very wisely, and with the right build. While the Shadowbringer can dish out incredibly high damage numbers, it does come at the cost of losing your “green” HP. And against monsters like Omega Planetes, going to the red HP can be lethal.
That said, with a comfortable build and skills like Resentment, Latent Power, Recovery Speed, and Divine Blessing, you can easily bypass the shortcomings of the weapon.
