Omega Planetes, without a shadow of a doubt, is the toughest monster in base Monster Hunter Wilds. The new Title Update 3 monster easily surpasses the likes of Tempered Gore Magala, Tempered Seregios, and the game’s flagship monster, Arkveld, in terms of difficulty. In fact, even the 8 Star version of the monster is a force to be reckoned with, let alone the 9 Star (Savage) variant.

Much like some of the past “collaboration” monsters in the series, Omega is built around the idea of multiplayer hunts. It’s essentially a “raid monster” placed in MHW, complete with multiple phases, each offering a new “gimmick.” It’s one of the few monsters in MHW that’s meant to be tackled with a full team of Hunters.

However, with the right build and strategy, you can defeat Omega Planetes in single-player (solo).

How To Defeat Omega Planetes in Monster Hunter Wilds’ Solo Mode?

Omega Planetes is meant to be fought with a complete team. As such, if you play the Planetes Protocol quest in multiplayer, it will always scale Omega’s HP for 4 Hunters. Even if you go in with just two Hunters, you will have to contend with a monster scaled for four players. Also, the same rule applies if you call in the Support Hunters against Omega Planetes.

Much like Monster Hunter World’s Behemoth, Omega Planetes is permanently scaled for four players. That said, if you go into the quest “solo,” and don’t call in Support Hunters, Omega will have significantly lower total HP. That said, the monster’s AI is unchanged, regardless of whether you tackle in multiplayer or solo.

However, with the right build and ample practice, you can actually defeat Omega Planetes solo. From our testing, the best weapons to solo Omega are Hammer, Great Sword, Dual Blades, Switch Axe, and Insect Glaive. We did test out Gunlance, but it felt a bit slower for this particular encounter. Also, we recommend elemental builds for this monster.

The first two phases of Omega Planetes are rather easy to deal with. However, as a solo Hunter, your biggest challenge will be to take down the Nerscylla in the third phase and the final phase of Omega.

Tips To Defeat Omega Planetes Solo

Here are some tips that will help you defeat Omega Planetes solo:

  • Before you head into the Planetes Protocol quest, make sure to carry Farcaster, Armorskin, and Demondrug. We cannot emphasise enough how useful these three items are in this quest. You can also carry Dust of Life, but it’s not necessary. Also, make sure to bring the Soul of the Pictomancer. Pictomancy is incredibly useful to deal passive damage.
  • For the first two phases, your primary objective will be to focus on dealing damage to Omega. Also, make sure to use your mounting attack in the second phase; that way, it will recharge by the time you reach the final phase.
  • For the third and fourth phases, you want to focus on survivability above everything. Also, since you’re playing solo, you don’t really need to focus on the enmity system. However, unless you’re using Sword and Shield or the Lance, we recommend sticking to Omega’s legs. Hitting the monster’s head will result in you gaining enmity, which can make the fight needlessly more difficult.
  • For the third phase, you want to focus on breaking Omega’s hind legs. Also, if you manage to topple Omega, don’t forget to attack its Axle (siren-like appendage on top). Also, make sure to pick up the Shield when you topple Omega. You’ll want to save the Shields for post-Nerscylla phases.
  • As for the Nerscylla, make sure to bring one Fire weapon. Fire deals a ton of additional damage to the Temnoceran, which you’ll need to meet the DPS check.

Additional Notes

Other than these tips, the only advice we can give is to stay focused on Omega and not rush to attack the monster. Also, remember, Omega is an optional monster that’s meant to be fought either with other players or Support Hunters. As such, if you’re having a hard time soloing the monster, you can always use the multiplayer features of Monster Hunter Wilds.
