If you are wondering whether Pokemon Legends Z-A has the breeding mechanic, this article explains everything that you need to know.

For most players, Pokemon breeding is the major end-game activity in mainline games. This is the only way to manipulate the EVs and nature of a Pokemon so that you can get your desired team member. Getting the perfect critter from breeding often takes hours or even days. If you are a conventional player, you might wonder if there is breeding in Legends Z-A.
Pokemon Legends Z-A does not have a breeding system. A Pokemon Daycare or a Pokemon Nursery does not exist in this title to accommodate traditional breeding. Although there is a cafe in Legends Z-A, it does not seem to share the picnic mechanics that Scarlet and Violet uses for breeding. In this article, we will dive into more details about why there is no breeding in Pokemon Legends Z-A.
Can You Breed Pokemon in Pokemon Legends Z-A?
No, you cannot breed Pokemon in Pokemon Legends Z-A. If you have played Pokemon Legends Arceus, this should not come as a surprise. The earlier Legends title also did not have any breeding system, and the sequel follow suit. While this might seem like a major setback for EV-focused trainers, it’s not actually a missed feature, but rather an unnecessary one.

Legends games typically do not feature the EV (Effort Values) or IV (Individual Values) system. If we look at Pokemon Legends Arceus, the game had a straightforward EL (Effort Level), which was somewhat of a combination of both EV and IV. It was easy to raise, and did away with the complexities of conventional EV and IV training.
The primary need for breeding is to get the perfect EVs and nature for your Pokemon. If EVs as a whole is not present in the conventional sense in Pokemon Legends Z-A, then breeding also does not seem to be necessary at all. As such, the lack of breeding in Legends Z-A is a justified move.

Can You Breed Pokemon in Other Games And Transfer to Pokemon Legends Z-A?

It is possible to breed your desired Pokemon in some other game (like Scarlet and Violet) and then transfer it to Pokemon Legends Z-A. However, there are a few things that you will need to keep in mind for this:
- You must transfer the bred Pokemon via Pokemon HOME.
- Once transferred to Pokemon Legends Z-A, it cannot be sent transferred back to any other mainline game.
Essentially, breeding in another game and transferring it to Legends Z-A is a one-way journey. That said, a Pokemon’s ELs are randomly assigned (if we are to go by Legends Arceus’s system.) As such, a perfectly bred Pokemon in Legends Z-A might not be a worthwhile investment.
